PS3 background dimming?!

I just watched a movie through the PS3 and noticed that during night scenes the display slowly starts dimming and after 5-10 seconds the picture is almost completely dark. I then took the TV remote, pressed the volume button on the remote, and the picture immediately went brighter again.

I then put a game on, and in the game when driving through the night the picture again started fading- pressed the volume button and it went bright again.

I stopped somewhere where the game background was bright and focused on small dark areas, checking if the picture will dim again. Waited a few seconds, pressed the volume button but nothing happened.

It seems as if as soon the picture background is dark, the system automatically dims the picture again until it just goes extremely dark.

What the hell???

Just checked it, the TV is fine. I also connected my laptop to the tv, played a movie, paused at a scene with a dark background and nothing changed.

I played the same movie through the PS3 and the picture started fading. Bizarre!

I know the ps3 will automatically dim the screen if inactive, happens when watching things on bbc iplayer, not sure if it does it on dvd playback though, would be silly if it did.

Also don't know how your tv remote could be effecting anything to do with the ps3.

That's why I said TV, if your remote is the one correcting it then it surely has to be the TV. The PS3 does dim, but you can turn that off.

If it's a slim and the TV supports CEC over HDMI?

Only guessing, but that could possibly happen.
