My Indian friends really liked the movie. They were raised in America, though, maybe there is a difference?

I enjoyed the movie well enough, but I don't think it has enough substance to deserve awards. You could say the same about Benjamin Button, though.

I though Slumdog was really good.

Lead actors accent changes every seen though..but the gorgeous Latika makes up for it.

The host of Millionaire made me laugh, especially when he got up and started dancing. Anil Kapoor > Chris Tarrant

It was basically a Bollywood movie with decent direction, without overboard melodrama and under 3 hours which meant it was enjoyable to watch.

I don't mind it winning an Oscar either. Can't think of a better movie this year and it certainly is better than some of the tripe that has won it recently.

I'm not really into over-the-top plotlines, and those of you who say it wasn't melodramatic must've watched a different film. But I thought the little kids acted really well, and the film made good use of the variegated backdrops that India offers. It's not a great film, but it was at least enjoyable to watch.

Not really the same, but a light hearted comedy, Dostana, i thought it was great.

But there are some must sees I.e Black (Best Film I have ever seen) and Lagaan.

I have watch Taare Zameen Par, and Water.

I will also recommend some classical movies in regional languages if you like movies of this calibre.

So the movie was basically an English curry. I'm glad you enjoyed it, please come again.

Yeah it was good alright, but I wasn't blown away or anything. The two films I heard were meant to be absolutely life changing were this, and Benjamin Button. Both left me a bit underwhelmed to be honest. Also, did anyone think the dance scene at the end was a bit cringeworthy?

I liked Lagaan (sp?) which is a bollywood flick set in the colonial days and centers around a poor community playing cricket against the English types.

check it out Marcos.

bump!

finally saw Slumdog on Sat night. very good film. harrowing but gripping at the same time. found myself being drawn in from the very start and it holds you there right to the very end.

Marcos, did you watch Lagaan yet?

Very good film, wouldn't say harrowing but still good.

Although, who gets tortured for cheating on a gameshow? That was a bit strange, all the flashbacks were very well done and all the actors, especially the kids, were fantastic.

The only thing was i couldn't stop chuckling everytime the host said "welcome to who wants to be a millinair"

Late to the party but....

I had no interest in it for so long - a) Because the clip I'd seen was of the Bollywood-esque dancing and I had no interest in that, and b) I had thought it looked like the usual 'Oscar-bait' adversity tale.

Got it in a Danny Boyle box-set and watched it tonight. Was much better than I had ever thought it would be. Still quite overrated in terms of the awards it got though but well worth a watch.
