Some weeks ago I told my cousin to get me some Trance music cds from Banglaore a big town in India. He went to, probably the best music store in banglore 'planet M' and asked for it, but what they showed him was cds of devitional songs like 'Siva Trance' and the like. Then he asked for something from great Trance acts like Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, and the
guys of that shop had never head of them. What a wankers............

Did Anyone from india had been in similar situations like this ?

BTW, with England being a place where some of the top Trance music acts were born, I don't see a lot of Trance lovers in here. Why ?

it's probably just to do with differences in culture and trends etc. don't worry about it, it's better to be a bit of an individual anyway.

and you can always buy anything you like over ebay anyway.

in England, Trance is more of a specialist genre nowadays. i've never been a fan of it rmyself.

Trance is not of 1990s. If yes, how could Armin van Buuren host his signature radio show "A state of trance" for over 6 years, it's still going strong with listners allover the world.

I've stopped listening to craps like Britney, Beyonce, Jessica Simpson and the like. They just sing, and the music is created by some unknown artists, who don't even get credited.

Shame your mate didnt ask for Goa Trance.

Goa is the Ibiza of India in many ways. Its in the south and is very liberal, even for the Indians. The Trance played there by the likes of Danny Rampling etc years and years ago got the term "Goa Trance". Always wanted to go there and have it but wouldnt be keen on the Trance vibe the whole time, although they have all tastes of Dance and Indie music also.

Trance has been completely reborn over the past 2 years. Check the stuff coming out of Denmark's Iboga Records. Also if you're in India, a good friend of mine, John"00"Fleming is playing at the Sunburn Festival in GOA on Dec 29th. There may be another show in Bangalore on NYE. All dark, driving, proper as fuck Trance.

Trance as its commonly accepted today, didn't even exist back then unless you count acid house or early GOA tracks. It was all Belgian and Dutch Techno in those days.... Oliver Adams, Frank De Wulf, Christian Jay Bolland etc. If it wasnt techno, it was Orbital and that sort of stuff. I'll give you that Kristjan, but the broader point remains that the scene in the early 90s was relatively embryonic compared to what blew up in the late 90s, specifically during the growth of the Internet, availability of MP3s, festivals, the rise of the SuperDJs, and beyond. The style of music that is widely accepted as Trance today did not actually take shape until certain production technologies became cheaper and more widely available. For example, the ability for Producers to easily utilyze automation did not happen til the late 90s. These new techniques ultimately gave rise to the cheesy trance that dominated the airwaves in 98/99 and is unfortunately still with us today.

technically yes, but luckily my trance phase only lasted those 2-3 years so I managed to happily ignore the late 90's rise of the cheesy stuff and the ridiculous "super" DJs

actually Tiesto was DJing up here last night and I happily ignored that as well

Trance is OK, though they dont make it like they used to. Late 90s was where it was at for trance.

John '00' Fleming is a great DJ. I used to listen to his old Essential Mixes all the time.

But to me trance is for the most part not more than glorified Euro techno. Even-though I used to love trance back in 98-01 it gets boring after a while. Having said that I can still enjoy some classic trance tunes like Three Drives On a Vinyl - Greece 2000.
