Bank Holiday game
FC United are set to play in another benefit match later this month against a team of celebrities and ex-professionals to help raise money for 21-year-old Salfordian Chris McGuirk.

Chris has been paralysed from the neck downwards since dislocating two vertebrate in a freak accident whilst playing for Salford’s De La Salle RUFC in December 2005.

So far Chris has received a tremendous amount of support from doctors, nurses and physiotherapists but when he finally leaves hospital he will need specialist accommodation as well as specialist equipment and care to give him the opportunity to make the most of a very restricted life.

A number of well known local people have already pledged support for Chris including Ryan Giggs, Phil Bardsley, Rugby League legend Adrian Morley, British light middleweight champion Jamie Moore and actor Will Mellor.

The match will kick off at 2pm on Bank Holiday Monday 29th May at De La Salle RUFC. Expect a few surprises on the day as a number of ex-pros have pledged to turn up as well as actors from soaps including Coronation Street, Holby City, Hollyoaks and Where The Heart Is.

As a pointer to this game, which is for a very good cause indeed.

If you are going to come to the match, there won't be much spectator room as it is a basic field, but it does have a loungue which I'm sure will be packed solid for the event.

Also the surrounding area's are used by hospital visitors as well as we are less than 500 yards away from Hope Hospital. There are parking restrictions from the end of the field down towards Eccles Old Road, on not only Wilton Road but also the surrounding drives. The club itself has car park, but only for around 30 or 40 cars. I wish I could say that the local parking wardens won't be around, but I can't. Pass this advice onto other forums as I wouldn't want anyone having to pay a fine, whilst going to watch a charity match.

As it is, no need to drive for me, the field as it's known is 30 seconds walk from my mum's house so, I think both my mum and I will attend this match. I know she's been eager to watch an FCUM match since starting to watch the Channel M programmes.

Well as I've not retained my season ticket at OT this year, I simply can't afford it, I might as well take the journey to the darkside of the force........

Well almost, I'll take in FC games next year, a few at OT as some of the other ticket holders around where I sit have my number so if they aren't going I can go back and see everyone, and when not watching footie, I'll probably be on the road watching some ice hockey.
