Eric Cantona and Karl Marginson down our street today!

Filming at the end of our street in Worsley today, 3 coach loads of blokes in FC shirts and bar scarves including manager Karl Marginson and the slimline Pete Boyle.

It's a new Ken Loach film apparently, what's the FC united connection?

I'm going to do another recce later see if I can get a glimse of the king.

Looking for Eric: Ken Loach's Film about Controversial Soccer Player Eric Cantona
June 4, 2008--Icon Film Distribution has acquired all U.K. rights to Ken Loach’s “Looking For Eric,” a Wild Bunch project originated by controversial Gallic soccer legend turned actor Eric Cantona.

Loach’s picture, which is shooting in Manchester, England, tells the story of Eric, a Manchester based postman struggling to cope with his chaotic family and nursing a broken heart.

The film is based on conversations between Cantona, writer Paul Laverty, Loach and producer Rebecca O’Brien. The lead actors are Steve Evets, Stephanie Bishop and John Henshaw. The film-makers were inspired by the footballing genius of Eric Cantona and his very special relationship with all who love football.

Cantona enjoyed a glittering club career at Manchester United. As well as leading the team to numerous big trophies he was suspended from the game for a vicious kung-fu kick on a Crystal Palace fan. He also drew headlines for his philosophical quotes--out of keeping with soccer player’s usual mundane comments. Referring to journalists’ insatiable interest in his life he once said, "When the seagulls follow the trawler it's because they think sardines will be thrown in to the sea."

Following our distribution of "Sweet Sixteen" and "Ae Fond Kiss," Icon Films will again be working with Loach. “Looking for Eric” is a Canto Bros, Sixteen Films, Why Not Productions and Wild Bunch presentation of a co-production with Les Films de Fleuve and BIM. Other financiers are Film4, France 2, screen agency
North West Vision Media and Icon Films. Wild Bunch is handling all international sales.

Had a mooch past again after tea, was told that Eric has finished filming and wasn't on the set, probably a polite way of telling me to piss off.

Lot's of blokes in FC united shirts including Margy and the fat bloke off the post office adverts with cricket bats and sticks hanging around outside Giggsys house (the house they're using is next door), it was rather bizarre!!

Bloke of the post office ads is a big red and FC regular.

No-one knows for sure what the film is about. I know a few people who have been extras, even mates of my mum have been extras?!?!? But it's about a postman, it's about Cantona and (I think) it's about the postie having a breakdown, hallucinating that Cantona is with him and at the same time having to choose between his mates who still go to OT and those who've boycotted and gone to FC. (but don't quote me... this is the common thread of about 6 versions I've heard)

So he has been there, bollocks bollocks bollocks!!!!

That's a great photo, I'm so jealous.

They were still filming at tea time so fingers crossed he's there tomorrow, I'm going to make a nuisance of myself in the morning.

Led to believe that yesterday was the last day of filming. Was at the Uni on Salford Crescent outside Lark Hill Place

Very disappointed to find Eric was not in any of the scenes But he turned up after the filming had finished
At least I got a photo and his autograph and paid for doing it
