FC United vs Durham City

Not followed FC much to be honest but just heard about this result - very poor result for even someone who knows almost nothing about FC.

Durham's record before today (they won 2-1) reads:

Played 28
Won 0
Drawn 0
Lost 28
Goals for 16
Goals against 137

And this is notwithstanding the 11 that King's Lynn put past them before they went bust. What on earth happened?

Their sponsors pulled out at the start of the season I think, so they put everyone up for transfer and are basically playing kids. Official Durham City Football Club Website

They've also asked the FA if they can return to the Northern Premier League (before the losses started piling up) next season, although I suppose it's a moot point.

They won't be allowed in Conference North either as they have a plastic pitch.

With all the clubs going bust and stuff in the Football League and below, we may have a really weird situation where Durham won't need to be relegated but will be, and a club that shouldn't need to be promoted will be promoted in place of Durham.

He means what on earth happened that FC couldn't beat them.

We scored early on and you fancied we'd roll them over. They then scored a fluke/really good* (delete as applicable) goal chipping our keeper from near the half way line. You still thought "well that's a one off"

Then our heads dropped for some reason, no passion, no commitment.... nothing.

Second half we gave away a penalty, they scored. We got a penalty, missed. We hit the underside of the bar, goal not given.

Was a weird game, but in short.... they were "up for it", we couldn't be arsed. The worst game (in terms of commitment) I've ever seen FC play.

They're making a real big deal of the win on the local news here....looked a cracking goal from the half way line.

You can see it here... FCUM.TV - TV for FC United of Manchester with a telling interview with Karl Marginson afterwards.
