Fred Garner

It is with extreme sadness that we have to inform you that Fred Garner has passed away.

Fred was found by a member of staff at the hotel in Whitley Bay in the early hours of Sunday morning having suffered a severe head injury, resulting in irreparable damage to his brain.

He was taken to Newcastle General Hospital and underwent major surgery yesterday afternoon. The injuries were of such an extent that the surgery was in vain and Fred passed away earlier this evening, having never regained consciousness.

The police are continuing their enquiries and to the best of our knowledge no official statement has yet been issued with regard to the possible cause of this incident.

We will endeavour to pass on any further information as it is received.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Fred's parents and all his family at this tragic time and we would respectfully ask that their privacy be respected.

God Bless you Fred, Rest In Peace.

A minute silence will be held before Wednesday night’s game against Woodley Sports in commemoration of the life of FC United founder member and season ticket holder Fred Garner who passed away on Monday evening.

Fred stayed in the North East after Saturday’s game against Newcastle Blue Star and was found injured at the rear of The Rex Hotel in Whitley Bay in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was taken to Newcastle General Hospital and underwent major surgery. The injuries were of such an extent that the surgeon’s efforts were in vain and Fred passed away having failed to regain consciousness.

It is our understanding that the coroner is satisfied that Fred’s death was an accident.

Our thoughts and condolences are with all Fred’s family and friends at this tragic time.

Apart from that I dont think anyone is ever going to know fully what happened
he was seen on cctv talking in the hotel reception at 3:30 am where he then went outside possibly for a smoke then was found in the morning by a hotel worker
