By taking part in the league they're subject to change of match scheduling too no?

Personally I think FC's approach is refreshing and admirable, pissing against the wind a bit on an issue like this though, it happens and there's a demand for it to happen from the public too, we want to watch televised football. Unless the 3pm rule goes - designed to protect the little clubs - football matches HAVE to be moved, often to the inconvenience of the match going supporter

And having lived in the area, it does get too much more inconvenient than the M62 on a Friday evening

That would never do.

Someone want to explain the following though?

We would like to advise supporters that our FA Cup 1st Round Proper tie against Rochdale will take place on Friday 5th November, kick off 7.45pm

On the morning after our victory over Barrow (Monday 25th October), the Club was informed by Rochdale AFC that the FA had contacted them to say that ESPN had requested our game be shown live on their channel on the evening of Friday November 5th. Each club will be paid £67 500 for the game to be shown, a sum of money undoubtedly valuable to both clubs. We were asked by Rochdale if we had any opposition to the game being switched. It was reassuring to learn that such a switch is not enforced by broadcasters and that we had a choice, but nonetheless this presented us with an immediate decision to make.

We recognise that playing such a high-profile, important game on a Friday evening is not ideal, not least of all for those supporters who live outside of the Greater Manchester area. It is an unfortunate consequence of our democracy that any decision the Board takes will not always meet with the approval of every FC United supporter as there are a wide range of circumstances and opinions to take into account, not all of which can be represented by the final decision. However, by accepting this offer the Board feels they have acted in the best interests of the Club as a whole, both in the immediate and long term, as it increases awareness of what we’re doing in Newton Heath and removes some of the enormous pressures of running a football club whilst playing at Gigg Lane.

when...

3 December 2007: "The board is asking supporters to show their opposition to the league's decision by not going to the game against Curzon ... [we feel] that it is important that a message is sent to the league that the views of the match-going fan must take precedence and those fans should not be inconvenienced in favour of a potential internet audience" - the FC United board protest at a kick-off time change in favour of the UniBond League's broadcaster, NPLTV.
Quite a bit of difference really if the full facts are known
The club are not against live tv full stop may be some of the fans are but not the majority
What they are` against is games being moved AGAINST THE WISHES OF THE CLUB AND AT THE INCONVENIENCE OF THE FANS

Had the game say been against Southampton at a 12 am or an 8 pm Sunday game then I'm sure they would not have agreed to it

A local game on a Friday night prices reduced almost 50% is it that much of a difference to a mid week game played on a Wednesday night

And after all the fans had already had the opportunity to voice any opposition to a tv game a vote was taken to enter the FA competitions knowing that it was a possibility a game could be moved for tv
The majority voted to enter the competitions

Anyone who still does not like idea is welcome to speak to any board member or El Presidente at almost any time or even at a game where they are often freely available walking around the ground

Any one not happy with that or wanting to take it any further is free to bring up a resolution at any of the meetings vote against the board or even stand themselves for election

At how many other clubs would you get that option not many I bet

Now the Curzon game a totally different story

Start or pre season in vision agreed with the league that games would be shown live on a Saturday at 3 pm or at the clubs normal mid week time

The board asked for confirmation that games WOULD NOT BE MOVED FROM NORMAL KO TIMES AND WERE GIVEN ASSURANCES FROM BOTH THE LEAGUE AND INVISION THAT THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN ALL GAMES WOULD BE AT A NORMAL KO TIME

Move on a few months into the season both Curzon and FC were informed that what was at the time about the biggest game of the season would be moved AGAINST THE WISHES OF BOTH CLUBS

So one game goes ahead with the wishes of both clubs the other goes ahead against the wishes of both clubs ending in a boycott by fans and directors of both clubs

To make up for the money that Curzon lost a friendly game was then soon arranged with them taking all the money a fact that most people who use the Curzongate affair to have a go against FC conveniently fail to mention

Also missing from all the selectively dredged up quotes from "Curzongate" in 2007 is this paragraph from the FC Board...

Quote:
TV exposure and the revenue it generates are important to football. There are times when moving a fixture is unavoidable and you only have to look at Harrogate Railway’s recent televised FA Cup game to see that in some cases it is even desirable.

Having previously been a season ticket holder at Bury, I fear for what I might get accused of!

I'll be rooting for FC tonight.

But deep down I feel they wouldn't like that. In many ways, despite my support for them, I know I am what they think is wrong with football.

Absolutely and utterly wrong.

Everyone is welcome, no matter who you are.

If you support MUFC you are welcome anytime you want.
