Parliamentary Investigation

FC United Participate in Parliamentary Investigation

FC United were pleased to be invited to give evidence to the All Party Football Group Inquiry into Governance of Football.

Our involvement kicked off with a request to give verbal evidence in Whitehall on Wed 7 May. Andy Walsh attended with Board Members Adam Brown and Alison Watt and gave an account of the background to the formation of FC United, focussing on the poor governance in the game, which allows hostile takeovers such as that suffered at Manchester United and how our model of fans owning the club in an Industrial and Provident Society (IPS) is an excellent protection against predators who wish to use our clubs for personal profit.

Other groups gave evidence to the same forum, including Supporters Direct, the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) and Howard Wilkinson representing the League Managers Association ((LMA).

This is a wide ranging inquiry and other groups and individuals either have been or will be asked to submit evidence.

We also provided a pack of information about our club and now have a few weeks in which to submit written comments on issues related to the governance of our national game.

A further suggestion was made by the Chair of the All Party Football Group, Alan Keen that FC United supporters/owners could become involved by writing to their MPs. Independent Inquiries such as this benefit greatly from interest being taken by other Members of Parliament and MPs usually respond to requests from their constituents. Therefore, you could help raise the profile of this inquiry by writing to your local MP asking him/her to support the All Party Football Group in their work.
