Questions on the future
I know similar things have been talked about before, but the thrusting of FC into the limelight this weekend seems an appropriate time to revisit some of this and see what peopl's current thinking is.
Non of this is meant as a dig, or trying to be clever, just some practical, if for now hypothetical question on where FCUM may head in the future... The key thing for me is, if FC keep building on their success, and work their way up the pyramid, how do they stay loyal to their founding principals. Ticket prices and TV are a couple of main examples. Would a hypthetical Premier League FCUM continue to charge the same entrance fee as they do today? When the SKY man comes calling, telling them to move a fixture against their wishes, do they refuse? Does this get them kicked out of the relevant league? If x years down the line thye are filling the new stadium evry week, and turning away as many again, do they expand? Where does this stop... hjow do you avoid the inevitable decline in atmosphere brought about by the dreaded day tripper? I guess really it's all a question of "would you rather FCUM settles at a certain level rather than improving and climbing indefinitely?" Interested to hear your thougts! |

As we progress each new league we join will have it's rules be it TV or whatever, but at the end of the day the fans have the choice and the majority carries the day. In time new fans will come and attitudes may change, I would like to think that our core principles can be written into our charter for the club, as long as we promote our club and it's principles as we have done up to now we do have a chance to grow. Nobody can ever say that we sold our soul because every major decision we make will be the fans choice and not footballs or the FA. We are promoting a new way for football fans to go, a new horizon and a different way of doing it and I can't see what is wrong in that. |

TAL is going to hold 5000 people. Well the feedback coming back about FC is beyond positive. Its absolutely unbelievable. Forums from up and down the country have been pouring praise on FC and the support last night. The club as things stand can cope with a 5000 seater stadium, but a couple more seasons where FC start to get those sorts of games on a more regular basis, and it can change very quickly. I'd be mightily surpised if the attendances don't rise sharply now as it is. So what then ? Does FC go looking for new home ? Do they start to redevelop in what limited space they have got. As you say, we go up in divisions, what then ? Do we play ball with the likes of SKY or the Football league about complying with sitting down. The truth is we just don't know whats going to happen. If you'd told me 5 years ago we'd be looking forward to an FA Cup game against Rochdale I'd have laughed my socks off. If you'd told me we'd be in the second round of hte FA cup I'd have thought you were completely mental. The real truth is, we dont know what the hell is going to happen. We didnt know 5 years if FC would be a success or a failure. We didnt know if we'd have any support left. Its simply a case of "we'll tell you when we get there" Where we end up is anyones guess. But getting there is going to be fun..... |
