Unibond Premier 2008-09

What teams are going to make up the Unibond Premier League next season? Who's going up, who's coming down and who looks good?
Do you think we can go up again?

( by the way i just noticed that the mods [well one in particular] added the text below my handle- i guess we aren't allowed to comment about them in return) it's not that they have too much power it's that they use it selectively to support their own prejudices?

Looks to me right now that FC will have to battle it out with Witton and those 2 old football league clubs Bradford and Gateshead.

I will be happy to finish around the half way mark next season

And if the rumours are true about BPA cherry picking the best players it looks like we could be loosing Rory Patterson and Curzon Mike Norton seems that they have seen the two top goal scorers in the league (80 goals between them)and want to pay big money for them

True, the competition is getting a bit more serious- how did FC fare against Bradford this season?
I don't hear too many rumours where I am, but surely playing in front of FC's bigger support has got to be attractive for players- I don't see that playing for a team like Bradford as showing more ambition regardless of their previous status as a football league team.

Do you really think Rory would leave? Given FC's revenue, there's surely enough in the pot to keep hold of him.
I'd have thought FC would have been in for Norton themselves this summer, given his proven ability. They're going to need 4 or 5 new players in to compete next season, that's for sure.

As for results v BPA - lost 3-4 at home, drew 0-0 away and they knocked us out of the FA Trophy too.

Bradford pa have got themselves a wealthy benefactor who for some strange reason wants to build a 20 odd thousand capacity stadium for a team with an average gate of about 300 on a good day and paying players 4-5 times the amount that FC can pay

I'm guessing that if this were to happen, they'd end up in the first division of the Unibond, or would they want another former league team in the Premier? If so who of the 3 relegated would get lucky? I'm hoping it does happen to keep Alty in the Conference

Mick, when do FC plan to build their own ground?

How is the fund-raising going with regards to the new ground?

Do Bury charge you much for using Gigg Lane?

They are already looking at potential sites and working with the local councils

Not sure what the total is at the moment but in standing orders they have around 50 grand a year coming into it

Bury charge far too much for using Gigg lane its costing about 5 grand a game

Bradford Park Avenue FC - Christ that is a name I have not heard in a long time. Craig Bellamy was plucked from there and for the die-hards Vic Buckingham

Anyone able to tell me what Player did Vic Buckingham spot??

Thanks for that Mick.

With the fund-raising events you must be banking 100k plus every year towards the new ground.

5 grand is alot. I'm guessing you had about 30 home games last season including cup games so that cost you 150k.

What is FC's turnover?

Not sure about that lost my figures

Messed about over main sponsorship this season company backed out at the last minute and then it was too late for anyone else

FA cup and trophy games will be played at Alty next season which should save a few grand for each game as ground hire has to come out of FCs gate money and cant be claimed for

Problem is other cup games the Unibond have said that these must be played at Bury

I may be wrong but I assume all of the above still have less money and fewer fans than FC United?

All of them will have less fans but most of them will also have plenty more money

As it stands at the moment as they all have their own grounds and can make money from food and drink ground sponsorship club house open all week etc FC cant plus the amount of money they are loosing each week by paying for the use of Gigg lane is far too much
There are also teams like BPA who have a wealth benefactor who is throwing money at the club to try and reach the league building a 20,000 capacity stadium and paying players 4-5 times the amount that FC can spend on players wages contract players at FC ar on about £140 a week (about 4-5 players) non contract players are on about £40 a game and thats only if they play
BPA players are on about £500-£600 a week

OK- So you figure Bradford will have the best players and get promoted- I assume 2 teams will go up, so how do FC rate against the rest of the league and do they have a chance of that 2nd spot?

hard to say really a lot of them teams have been playing at a higher level for quite a bit and a lot of them were playing at conference level before last seasons league restructuring There is also the possibility of Halifax being put into this league as well and The way FC have shot up the leagues and with virtually the same team its going to be interesting and I would expect them to finish about halfway this coming season

Once they have their own ground they will then be able to spend a bit more on players

Looking forward to next season, going to be interesting how we get on.

When does the league start, similar time to the higher leagues?

I'd be happy with staying up in this league, allowing us to grow a little and hopefully begin to set the wheels in motion for our own ground. Any sort of promotion would be an amazing achievement IMO.

Mick, whats the latest on us keeping hold of Rory?

How about the other players, are we set to lose any others?

Also any coming in?
