Academy v Huddersfield Town

The Reds continued their good start to the season with a comfortable 5-0 win over Huddesfield Town at Storthes Hall this morning.

United fielded the usual suspects but named a triallist, Lee Askham on the right side of midfield. Askham, and England U/17 international, is currently on Sheffield United's books.

The Reds started brightly and both sides could have scored, with Ajose particularly wasteful for United. Then on 41 minutes Federico Macheda opened the scoring with a well taken goal after hitting the bar some minutes earlier. Town could have troubled United on a couple of occasions but poor finishing let them down.

Half time: Huddersfield 0 United 1

In the second half, United stepped up the tempo and with Norwood and James pulling all the strings in midfield, keeper Amos was hardly tested. Further goals followed for Ajose four minutes into the second half and Askham added a third on 59 minutes. 20 minutes into the second half Stewart and Curran came on to replace Ajose and Askham and Cameron Stewart added United's fourth five minutes after taking the field on 70 minutes. With 15 minutes to go, captain Matthew James added a fifth and Huddersfield were well and truly beaten.

Final Score: Huddersfield Town 0 Manchester United 5

Team:

1. Amos
2. Strickland
3. Gill
4. Brown
5. Wootton
6. James
7. Askham
8. Norwood
9. Macheda
10. Petrucci
11. Ajose

12. Curran (7)
13. Devlin
14. Stewart (11)

Askham any good? I'll watch the highlights tomorow but would he be good enough to get a contract from what you gathered MUJAC?

Cheers for that.

Limited evidence to go on but Askham reminded me a lot of Lee Martin in his general play.

Good goals. All the usual suspects seemed to play well.

From the extended highlights Matty James seemed to have a typically dominant game in midfield.

Whenever Chris Curran comes on, his pace really worries defenders. He is a traditional winger who can beat his man on the outside and then usually has good delivery. He has set up 2 or 3 goals like this already this season.

Nice to see him set up Matty James on Saturday.

You can have 2-3 over-age players in the academy matches, I think. Amos is also too old for u-18 football this season..
