United Under-18s lead 1-0 at Carrington, courtesy of Adnan Januzaj's first goal for the Reds - a header.

The coaching staff are well represented on the touchline at Carrington. Reserves boss Warren Joyce, who sends his boys out to face Blackburn tomorrow night, has been joined by Brian McClair and Paul Scholes.

United Under-18s are now 2-0 up at home to Crewe, Jack Barmby bagging the second goal with a stunning 63rd-minute strike

Gyliano van Velzen has made it 3-0 to the Reds. Should be home and dry now, with 15 minutes remaining

Full-time in the Academy League: United U18s 4 Crewe Alexandra U18s 1. Good win for Paul McGuinness' boys on a sunny but cold afternoon at Carrington. (AM)

15:13 Crewe pull a goal back through Michael Koral, in the 86th minute. (AM)

15:07 Jack Rudge finishes with aplumb for the hosts' fourth goal. United U18s 4 Crewe Alexandra U18s 0.

Crewe's academy is usually one of the best in England right now, so good to see them winning. Apparently Barmby's goal was a screamer.

Just asked as this team seems to be playing without an out and out striker for ages now.

Barmby seems pretty prolific. His name keeps popping up among goalscorers for last 2 years in ACademy.

Randomly discovered highlights of the Wolves game on my tv recorder last night. First time I've seen him play. Looks like a really classy young player. Willowy build but lovely touch and balance.

He always was a malnourished looking cnut. I used to think he was going to be a top player one day though.

Haven't been keeping up with the youth games this season?

How's Jack Barmby been doing, and Rothwell?

They looked our best two players by a long way in the Milk Cup.

That City youth team were excellent back then. They had a shite load of Irish lads as well. McCarthy, Ireland, Flood, Whelan and one more I think. Miller and Richards were like giants at that level

I played against his cherry orchard team in the fai cup semi final. Best player I ever played against and scored a hat trick against us in a 4-0 win. I think the junkie pulling a needle on him after breaking into his house destroyed him completely because he was doing well with city up until then

Barmby has been disappointing so far, although he has been scoring goals.

Rothwell has been one of the more consistent performers and scored some excellent goals although he has found it difficult at times to impose himself in games.

United and Crewe made up the bottom 2 of the Academy Group before this match. I'm not sure if they have a young group like us or just lack a few star players this year.

Januzaj looks a talent, there are some tidy players in the team at the mo but he stood out in the games he played, likes to push on and attack and has lovely close control, Barmby worth keeping an eye on, he has drive and a strong left foot.
