I would guess he would play some part, he's not ready for the first team yet.

I would think so. I'll be watching live on MUTV tomorrow. I take it you're going to the game.

From manutd.com:

Smith's comeback continues

Alan Smith continues his pursuit of match fitness as the Reserves begin their league season at Ewen Fields on Thursday night.

The 25-year-old striker is joined by new signing Tomasz Kuszczak as a strong United side entertain Blackburn Rovers.

Smith partners Phil Marsh in attack, while Chris Eagles, David Jones, Ritchie Jones and Jamie Mullan comprise the midfield.

Kuszczak starts his first game since joining United behind a defence of Kieran Lee, Danny Rose, Ryan Shawcross and David Gray.

United: Kuszczak, Lee, Rose, Shawcross, Gray, R Jones, Mullan, D Jones, Marsh, Smith, Eagles.
Substitutes: Ngalula, Heaton, S Evans, Barnes, Burns.

(will 1 or 2 players withdraw because of transfers/loans?)

Sunderland. MUTV news confirmed he's on the way there for a medical. Not said if it's loan or permanent deal.

Eagles also off to NEC Nijmegen til 1 Jan 07. Probably won't be in today's reserves game.

Smith in action as Jeffers sees red

Alan Smith stepped up his comeback with 90 minutes for Manchester United's reserve side.

The England international suffered a broken leg and dislocated ankle against Liverpool in February, which ruled him out of the World Cup, however he is now nearing a first-team comeback.

He played the full match against Blackburn, who had striker Francis Jeffers sent off for striking out at United's Ryan Shawcross.

It was just 25-year-old Smith's second competitive game, following an appearance in United's Lancashire Senior Cup victory over Preston at Deepdale, when he managed 66 minutes.

United beat Blackburn's second string thanks to an early penalty from Phil Marsh.

What is it with Jeffers (if it's the same ex-Eveton, Arsenal player) and United? He always seems to see the red mist.
