City in the MSC
eams
United: Heaton, Gray, Lea, Eckersley, Chester, Hewson, Barnes (Possebon 56), Cleverley, Welbeck, Eagles, S Evans (Galbraith 80). unused subs: Zieler, Galbraith, Bryan, CEvans City: Martin, Logan, Williamson (Obeng 49), Breen, MacDonald, Clayton, Etuhu (Weiss h-t), Grimes, Nimely-Thcuimeni, Marshall (Kay 80), Moore. unused subs: Mentel, Mouritsen. Goals: 1-0 (Eagles 7), 2-0 (Eagles 10) Bookings: United: City: A decent crowd had made the journey into Cheshire for the game, and before kick off there was an immaculately observed minute’s silence to mark the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster. Blues keeper Richard Martin denied United after five minutes pushing a Barnes header away after back-pedalling from his own punched clearance at a corner. But the scores didn’t stay level for long, and it was a bit of first team experience that gave the Reds the lead. On seven minutes Chris Eagles collected in midfield, took aim from 25 yards and his bobbling shot had enough on it to beat Martin and go right into the corner of the net. And just three minutes later the same player doubled the lead. The number 10 took a free kick to the left of the box and swung the ball over the wall and beyond Martin’s outstretched left hand. City improved, with Liberian striker Alex Nimely-Tchuimeni looking lively. They were a denied a decent shout for a penalty on 28 minutes when Kelvin Etuhu looked to have been hauled down by United keeper Tom Heaton as he tried to end a move started by Karl Moore on the left. Eagles was close to his hat-trick after the break, nearly latching on to Welbeck’s but denied by a last-ditch challenge by Breen. Kelvin Ethuhu had been replaced at half time, possibly with one-eye on keeping him mind for Sunday’s senior derby. Shaleum Logan, the other Blue with first team experience, moved over to left back after Sam Williamson came off in the second half. The Blues passed the ball around better and looked a lot more confident than before the break, but it was United who still managed to have the better chances. Eagles chanced his arm from range again, driving it straight at Martin, and Cleverley forced the City stopper into a fine save from a half-volley with 20 minutes to go. Etuhu’s replacement, Weiss, worked his way into the box with three minutes left but could not link up with Kay, also now on from the bench. United were able to keep out the Blues, who were left to rue Chris Eagles’ two early long-range efforts. |

Good result. Eagles is a talented guy, never good enough for United but talented nonetheless. Would be a good signing for top Championship/bottom Premier League sides. Seriously needs a haircut though.
Didn´t see the game though. it wasn´t on MUTV so I doubt many people here saw it either. |

Was Dong away with China in mid-week?
Any news on Ritchie Jones? I see that his contract ends in the summer, is he very likely to be released? |
