Federico Macheda

I didn't know we signed this guy. I remember the rumors, but I thought it came to nothing.

Edit; the link somehow doesn't work, but his profile is on manutd.com under academy players.

Formerly a member of Lazio's youth system, Federico Macheda joined United in September 2007.

The 16-year-old forward was born in Italy's capital Rome and was regarded as a promising prospect in his homeland.

Having recently relocated to England, Federico has joined up with his new team-mates in United's Under-18s and begins a three-year Academy scholarship.

Like a cross between Gerd Muller, Romario and a young Jenny Agutter.

Really impressed with the lad, barely 16 and yet he has so much poise and composure on the ball...he's taller and tougher than Rossi too which should help. Also, he can play both as a main striker and as playing just in behind too.

Though he's only a youngster right now and who knows if he'll ever amount to anywhere near the player that his potential may suggest.

I've read that he's very rated in Italy, a very good striker who has brilliant technique. Member of the "Class '91", as they already call the kids in the U-16 set up.

Scored on his debut for United aswell. Must be some talent

He looked like a young Zlatan or Berbatov in terms of playing style, on his youth team debut. I will look forward to seeing what he develops into at United. Hopefully he will also grow into a tall strong lad.

Did the club pay a small tribunal fee to sign him?

Scored a nice goal to bring United back to 2-2 in the Academy game against B'Burn. Does look a good prospect.

He's got a fantastic name. Bound to make it.

I had no idea we actually got this kid. I heard rumours but i was of the impression that nothing really came of it.

I only saw the 10 minute period around when United got things back to 2-2. They had been 2-0 down. I think final score was 2-2..

The little I saw was that Wellbeck and Macheda were up front, Eikrem, Drinkwater , Evans in midfield.

Whenever I see Wellbeck I can see that he good touch for his size, but he always seems a little too "gangly" to me.

Amos
McCormack, Chester, Strickland, Cleverley
Derbyshire, Eikrem, Evans, Bryan (Ajose)
Welbeck, Macheda
Not used: Woods, Brandao.
McCormack was at fault for giving away a en and then missed a pen in the first half when the score was 2-0 for Blackburn.
Derbyshire gave us a lifline, even though we didn´t deserve that, before half time.
Macheda got us to 2-2 and Evans scored the winner. We could have scored more and were better in the second half.

Cheers for the reports, lads. Brandao - who did so brilliantly in the Milk Cup - isn't getting much playingtime these days, is he? Shame, he's a class act.

Finally, a Federico Macheda video has surfaced on YouTube so that everyone can see the youngster's ability

Here's his goal for the Academy a few weeks ago against Everton to make is 2-3 in a match that finished 3-3 -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azbJi1qV5NA

A really good goal, one of his best. He's been very promising so far but is only 16 so it will be at least a few years until we see if he can realise his potential.

Great goal, obviously a talented lad. He's quite big for a 16 year old, isn't he. Italian yes, but made for English football

You have to use the Youtube brackets and insert the code that starts after the "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v="

So your link is:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azbJi1qV5NA

Which ends up like this:

Yeah he's got good height for his age, must be around 6ft already but needs to bulk up a bit...only very young so that's no problem just yet. His physical presence could potentially be the factor that helps his first team chances more so than Rossi whose height and lack of strength was definitely a reason for his departure. He does look more suited to the English game, but saying all that...he's got some real quality on the ball and offers our academy side a lot of different attributes.
