The final academy game
Manchester United U18s 0 Sunderland U18s 1
Sunderland Under-18s were crowned champions of their group after a dramatic last-day win at Manchester United. The Black Cats beat United, finalists in this year's FA Youth Cup, thanks to a penalty from Jack Colback. Sunderland were awarded the penalty after Jordan Henderson was brought down in the box at the end of a good move. That coupled with Nottingham Forest's failure to beat bottom club Huddersfield means Sunderland top Group D and go into the national play-offs. The winners of the four FA Premier Academy League groups go into the play-off semi-finals. Sunderland play Manchester City, the winners of Group C, next Saturday while Arsenal (Group A) and Leicester City (Group B) go head-to-head in the other semi-final. Coach Kevin Ball missed the game after undergoing a back operation last week but he will be back to steer them into the play-offs. |

Chris Backhouse was their goalkeeper. He did well, his father, stevie b., must be proud. United had a lot of changes.
Both Backhouse and Daniels have done well since leaving us, but we released them and signed Zieler. |
