The Future Champions Belo 2011

Young Reds in Brazil

United have sent a youthful squad to Belo Horizonte in Brazil for the exciting opportunity to play in the Future Champions tournament.

The Under-17 championship allows the young Reds to pit their wits against the cream of world youth football, with Paul McGuinness' side drawn in Group C alongside Brazilians Corinthians and Chilean outfit Colo Colo.

United's opening fixture will be played on Monday 12 December against Corinthians, with the Colo Colo game to follow on Tuesday. A third encounter, against another Brazilian team, Flamengo, will kick off on Wednesday and help determine which fixture United will play in the knockout stages of the competition.

Juventus are the only other European representatives and the trip will provide invaluable experience for the travelling squad.

It's all a scouting mission, get to see some Brazilian prospects up against the United kids, to get a better idea of their quality. With any luck we'll hear about a signing or two after this is over!

So basically what you are saying is that the chance for our youngster to play against some of the best teams in the world has nothing to do with it ?

The team has landed in Brazil. According to ManUnitedYouth on twitter at least these have travelled: Januzaj, Dæhli, Wilkinson, Dalley, Rowley, McNair, Byrne, Ioannou and Josh Harrop.

It is a great change to use some of the Desportivo boys.
Lucas Evangelista is born in 1995.

Evangalista isnt in the photo anyway so maybe Aguilar was brought because of our lack of strikers with James Wilson injured. The really tall lad at the back is Ashley Fletcher

Not even necessarily that - the South American kids are playing in their own environment, we're way out of our comfort zone. The temperature's been hitting 36 degrees out there, the pitches look dire to say the least and we played our first game about 24 hours after arriving! Not to mention that fact that with four loaness/triallists it's something of a makeshift side...

No - but they are better. As they show every time they participate in tournaments like this.

He's a defender according to this:
Under-17 - Ryan McConnell ? UEFA.com

Our interest is also mentioned in this link:
Quote:
IRELAND’S U17s face a cauldron of noise at the Tsentralniy Stadium in Almaty today (2pm) when 5,000 fans will be backing Kazakhstan’s bid to usurp John Morling’s side in their bid for UEFA U19 qualification.
Wednesday’s 8-0 thrashing of Liechtenstein gives Ireland the chance to secure progress from the first phase of qualifiers with victory today.

Kazakhstan lost their opener to the Czech Republic and must win today.

"Thousands more will show up for this one and it’s also being broadcast live on national TV," said Morling. Donegal native Ryan McConnell, the subject of interest from Manchester United, has overcome an ankle injury and is available for selection.

ORLY?

In the Milk Cup, just one of the last 15 trophies went to a team from South America (Fluminese won the U-16s in 2007)

In the same period of time there's been 8 British winners, including United twice (U-16s in '08 and '09)

Noe Baba is nr. 16.

YOUNG Castlebar Celtic star Noe Baba is on the verge of signing with Manchester United.
The 15-year-old prodigy is currently in Brazil with United’s Under 16 team taking part in a tournament and the Premier League giants are reported to be very keen to sign Baba.
The versatile Mayo youngster, who can play in defence, midfield and attack, is the captain of the Irish Under 15 team and has been capped over ten times.
He has been on trial with a number of top clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City, Fulham, Leeds, Celtic, Blackburn and Newcastle, and several of them have been chasing his signature in recent times.
However, Baba is particularly taken by Man United, according to Castlebar Celtic club stalwart Pat Naughton.
The teenager has been over to them twice already and was introduced to a number of the first team squad.
“They’ve been very impressed by Noe,” Pat Naughton told The Mayo News last night. “Hopefully there might be something happening now after the trip to Brazil. Noe isn’t sixteen until August next year, the age when he can sign with a club, but they may choose to set the ball rolling before then.”
Baba has been singled out as a youngster with star quality for many years with speed, strength and a great football brain. Allied to that, says Pat Naughton, he is a young man with a wise head on his shoulders.
“Noe does everything right. Everywhere he goes, people like him. He is such a pleasant young lad and even though he is Irish captain, it hasn’t went to his head at all, he still loves coming down to play with his friends at Celtic. We’re all very proud of him,” he said.
A number of other young players from Mayo are currently contracted to professional clubs in England. Ronan Murray from Glencastle, near Belmullet, is currently on loan from Ipswich Town to Swindon and has featured for the ‘Tractor Boy’s’ first team in the past. Ballina’s David Cawley is also with Ipswich.
Paul Lawless from Aghamore is currently with Derby County as is Ballyglass’ Ryan Connolly.

Baba is very highly rated and is apparently wanted by city and arsenal. Also heard he has been playing for the Ireland under 15s since he was 12 but not sure if this is true or not.
Edit: Just realised I actually saw him play in the schools cup final last year against Rochfordbridge. Very dominant physically in that match from what I remember although his team lost 1-0
