Man Utd vs Sunderland (Academy)

------------------Amos-------------------

Derbyshire---Strickland---Brown---Dudgeon

King------Eikrem-----Norwood-----Galbraith

---------------------Brady----------------

-------------Brandao----------------------

Subs: Woods, Gill, Curran, Ajose

Good to see Joshua King getting his first start for the U18's as well as one or two others from the U16's. No Macheda which suggests he'll be involved on Monday night against Newcastle at St. James Park.

I'll try to post regular updates.

Sir Alex interview just prior to the match. He said that "Welbeck and Macheda are very talented youngsters, them three (including Eagles) have a real chance of progressing to the first team". Not too sure about Eagles because his chance may have passed, but Welbeck and Macheda have a great opportunity - both still only very young.

20 minutes gone, still 0-0. A lot of wasteful play by both sides so far...losing possession carelessly. However, when we've been going forward we look dangerous with the 3 runners behind Brandao. Galbraith and King look dangerous on the wings and Brady has found some space in behind. Brandao missed a great chance from a Galbraith cross whilst King's electric pace took him through but his control let him down.

Manchester United 0-1 Sunderland

Noble 29'

Deflected shot from distance, scraped Strickland's head on the way in and that deflection took it past Amos. They had been looking dangerous in the last 10 mins or so.

Who is Brown at centre back? Also have we signed Scott Wootton or is his trial period over?

Brady has just been subbed with an injury, on comes Curran. Joshua King is now playing behind Brandao.

Manchester United 0-1 Sunderland (HT)

Sunderland have been the better side. Lidell's hit the post and Amos made a great save from his shot at the end of the half. After the first 20 or so minutes, our attackers have disappeared and we look poor.

That is Wes Brown's younger brother, looks a lot like him and has done pretty well. Not sure about Wootton, I think we have signed him but not sure why he isn't even on the bench.

Manchester United 0-2 Sunderland

Henderson 54'

Deserved. Poor and careless play by Strickland who lost the ball and then the strikers linked well to finish easily.

Manchester United 0-3 Sunderland

Waghorn 56'

Sunderland's most talented youngster, great finish from distance. We look finished already. You can see why the Black Cats are going for the title.

Manchester United 0-4 Sunderland

Luskam (sp?) 62'

Terrible marking, free header from a cross.

This is getting embarrassing.

Forgot to mention, Oliver Gill came on for Dudgeon who got a head injury at half time.

We're doing slightly better now, Ajose and King are causing one or two problems but still no real chances and I can't remember us having one shot on target.

Manchester United 1-4 Sunderland

Curran 83'

Norwood with a great long ball through, Chris Curran rounds the keeper well and taps it into an empty net.

Manchester United 1-5 Sunderland

Luskam 86'

Once again sloppy defending costs us, failure to clear and then Luskam smashes the ball into the roof of the net.

Manchester United 1-5 Sunderland (FT)

Terrible performance by us, the U16's youngsters thrown in at once really did not help. Sunderland looked brilliant, great passing and awareness as well as being clinical in front of goal. We were shockingly poor in defence; they looked like strangers and most of their goals were a result of us faling to clear or being careless in possession. Brown looked good however; tall, strong and athletic...looked good on the ball too but he had it really tough today with everyone else disintergrating around him.

The injuries and substitutions really didn't help, our fluency going forward was completely ruined by the second half and our attackers' inability to keep the ball meant that the defence was constantly under pressure. Special mention to Evandro Brandao who was disgracefully poor; looked unfit, uninterested, lacked control and failed to make any worthwhile runs or keep possession. His stamina is so poor that he moved back into midfield because he was not up to leading the line so Joshua King took his place. Honestly, forget any chance of Brandao ever making it in my opinion...he doesn't have the ability or the hunger.

i know this team was young but we've got so many talented players, they just don't seem to be able to work together, i think we need a keano type player in the midfield

Sunderlands players looked older bigger and more mature, but they are top of league and looked a useful side.

Definitely and Waghorn showed against our first team that he has a lot of talent is definitely one for the future.

To be fair we were missing a lot of key players from this season like Welbeck, Macheda, Drinkwater, C Evans, Bryan, Matty James.

The defence we have in there is terrible though. Dunno if I see any of them having a chance of making it. I think we need a few prospects in there to shaken things up. Football-wise we are one of the best around at this level but I think some of the lads in there lack character to turn things around when there back is against the wall.

Also I have noticed we are a very small team if you look at that team today. Gill, Brown and King only really stand out as our tall ones.

Yeah very well said. A combination of factors made it a dismal day for the lads.

Gill was terrible at left back in the second half, he doesn't have the pace to play there. Sunderland took complete advantage of that side. Do you know why Wootton wasn't involved today mate?

Results are a lot less important than performances in youth football - if there is one thing lacking in a team at that level, they can be bought in when it gets to the first team level. I don't think what i just said makes any sense though........

Makes sense to me. Results are pretty meaningless at this level.
