Michael Barnes on loan to Chesterfield

Chesterfield have signed Manchester United winger Michael Barnes on loan until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old could make his debut against Grimsby on Saturday.

Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson told the club website: "He is an exciting prospect and we are delighted Sir Alex Ferguson has allowed him to join us."

Looks like Pauls Scholes, plays like Luke Chadwick, as lightweight as Luke Chadwick, difficult to see him progress to our first team squad besides the usual Carling Cup appearances

I'm a little surprised that he's dropped down to Chesterfield, but this will do Barnes the world of good. It's the sort of experience that should improve him as a player and challenge him for that matter. His chances of making the first team right now are limited, with the return of Park, it puts him further down the pecking order.

However I do hope he comes back to United a better player. He's very similar to Park in style of wing play, nothing fancy, just a direct winger, which is always handy to have in your squad.

have never really thought him a contender to make the breakthrough with us, don't see him as potential premiership quality at all. will be interesting to see how he gets on at Chesterfield though, could be the making of him i suppose.

Unfortunately I don't think he is good enough to make it at United.

from what i've read on Chesterfield forums he was pretty awful for them. 'little boy lost' is a phrase that stuck out - he looked like that when he played in the league cup for us last season but that was his United debut, benefit of the doubt. if he looks like that in league 1/2 (forget which Chesterfield are in?), it doesn't exactly bode well.

have to admit i've never rated him. did think he might eke out a career lower down the football league but even that has to be in doubt now.

Hmmm, it seems he didn't have a good campaign at Chesterfield, in what division Chesterfield are now?

I only watched this Barnes lad at the Malaysian tournament at the start of this season when our lads became the world champions.

Chesterfield is now in league two... that does not sound good for Barnes.
