RESERVES IN ACTION TONIGHT

Latics' reserve side face a tough test when they take on Manchester United at Northwich Victoria tonight (KO 7pm).

Matty Wolfenden returns to the side after missing Monday's draw against Shrewsbury through illness, while Les Pogliacomi again starts in goal.

The game will take place at the Victoria Stadium, and will kick off at 7pm.

Latics will line up as follows:

Les Pogliacomi, Michael Pearson, Paul Black, Nathan Kilcourse, Danny Knight, Aaron Chalmers, Ross Thaker, Liam Dawson, Lewis Alessandra, Matt Wolfenden, Ryan Brooke.

Subs: Jack Fitzgerald, Josh Bell, Adam Edwards, Rory Winters, Aaron Walsh.

Any news on the United team?

United’s Reserves continued their perfect record in this season’s Manchester Senior Cup, bagging another four goals at the expense of Oldham Athletic on Thursday evening.

Goals from Conor McCormack, Chris Fagan, Sam Hewson and Sean Evans took the Reds’ tally to 15 goals from just three matches in this season’s competition, and prolonged their unbeaten record in all competitions to eight matches.

McCormack opened the scoring after just two minutes, although there was a hint of fortune about the strike as a sizeable deflection took the effort away from Latics goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi.

Although visiting striker Ryan Brooke twice came close to squaring the match, Fagan slotted home a neat finish after 23 minutes to give Brian McClair and Jim Ryan’s side some much-needed breathing room.

Oldham then twice came within a whisker of reducing the arrears from direct free kicks, only for the post and Reds goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler to thwart Michael Pearson and Liam Dawson respectively.

For all the visitors’ close calls, however, the game was effectively ended in first half injury-time. McCormack was tripped inside the area and, although skipper Sam Hewson saw his initial spot-kick saved, he converted the rebound to put the tie to bed.

Hewson almost added a fourth following a slaloming run after the interval, but it was Sean Evans who added gloss to the scoreline with his own neat finish from close range, wrapping up another convincing victory for the Reds' second string.
