MSC game against Oldham tonight

From manutd.com

Reds prepare for Latics

A strong United Reserves side will take on Oldham Athletic in the Manchester Senior Cup on Monday evening.

Brian McClair and Jim Ryan have named a strong squad to Boundary Park, with the likes of Chris Eagles, Danny Welbeck and Rodrigo Possebon all included in the 15-man party.

Having succumbed to the relentless form of Liverpool in the Barclays Premier Reserve League, United's hopes of tangible success this season lie in the cup competitions.

Victory in Monday's match would prolong the Reds' 100 percent record in this season's competition, and they are already assured of a berth in this season's final.

That leaves the Reds on course for a potential cup Double, with a Lancashire Senior Cup semi-final against Bolton Wanderers looming on Thursday.

Monday evening's game kicks off at 19:00 BST. Tickets, which can be purchased at the stadium, cost £4 for adults and £2 for concessions.

United: Amos; Gray, Chester, C Evans, Cathcart; Cleverley, Jones, Possebon, Hewson, Galbraith, S Evans, Eagles; Welbeck, Fagan, Bryan.

The match will be on tomorrow at 6pm on MUTV, shame they're not showing it live tonight.

From the official website. We're into the final, with our opponent still to be determined

Quote:
Reserves: Oldham 0 United 2

United's Reserves made it five wins from five in this season's Manchester Senior Cup, with a 2-0 victory at Oldham Athletic. Chris Eagles and Ritchie Jones were the Reds' goalscorers, while striker Danny Welbeck was particularly unfortunate not to join them on the scoresheet.

A spirited display from a young oldham side posed United plenty of problems, particularly in the first half, but ultimately the Latics were fortune to ship just the two goals. Eagles set the tone for another impressive display with a scorching free-kick which inched just wide after three minutes, but it was then Oldham's turn to threaten.

Latics striker Eduardo Jesus poked an effort narrowly wide, then drew a smart save from Reds goalkeeper Ben Amos, before United moved ahead just after the half-hour. Picking the ball up inside the Latics' area, Eagles engineered space away from his marker and calmly slid a neat finish under goalkeeper Bell.

Craig Cathcart and Welbeck both came close to doubling the Reds' advantage before the break, but the Irish defender saw his header cleared off the line before Welbeck's low shot struck an upright. Welbeck drew a fine save from Bell, while Eagles came close with another free-kick, but Oldham continued to press for a route back into the game.

The result was only ensured in stoppage time, as Jones blasted home a spot kick following a foul on Tom Cleverley inside the Latics' area.

Having won each group game, United now need only wait to find out who they will face in May's Manchester Senior Cup final.

United: Amos; Gray, Cathcart, Chester, Cleverley; Jones, Possebon, Hewson, S Evans (Fagan 82); Eagles, Welbeck (Bryan 76)
Subs not used: C Evans, Galbraith

Eagles 31, Jones (pen) 90

He needs a change of scenery next season. Unfortunately for him we look pretty well set for midfielders, so it's either a loan or a sale. Probably a loan, as playing in the reserves all season has hardly driven up his value. Make a good showing the Championship, or one of the promoted teams in teh Premiership, and that will change quickly.

But let the boy play some proper football FFS, must be a very discouraging season for him this year.

Good to see Cathcart on that team sheet - hasn't he been injured for ages?

doubt that'll be confirmed until we know the opposition. Bolton's final game (they only need a draw against Stockport to make the final) isn't until May 1st so it won't be until then.
