David Poole is the only recognised first-teamer for tonight's Manchester Senior Cup tie against Manchester United.

Pooley is expected to play central striker alongside Tom Fisher, who was on the bench at Charlton on Saturday.

The Barnes brothers, Louis and Sam, plus Sam Hare who were also unused subs at the Valley will also start.

Kick off time at Hyde United's Ewen Fields is 7.00pm - please do your best to get along to cheer on the young Hatters.

County: Rigby; Disney, L Barnes, Williams, S Barnes, Fitzpatrick, Murty, Roberts, Poole, Fisher, Hare.

Subs: Leer, Parisi, Wilson, Baldwin.
---------------

One familiar face involved then.

Cup defence continues

United's defence of the Manchester Senior Cup continues on Monday evening with a trip to face Stockport County.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Warren Joyce's side travel to Hyde United's Ewen Fields for the 19:00 GMT kick-off. United will aim to bounce back after suffering a penalty shootout defeat in December's most recent group game against Bolton.

However, having won this season's opening two matches, against Bury and Oldham Athletic, the Reds are still well placed to defend the trophy for a third successive season.

Monday's match will be shown exclusively live on MUTV, with coverage beginning at 18:30 GMT. For supporters who wish to attend, entry can be gained at the turnstiles at a cost of £3 for adults and £1 for concessions.

Based on the academy team we put out last weekend, I think we might see Pogba, Petrucci and King all start. Which should be interesting.

He's "pencilled in" for the reserve derby on Thursday night.

United:

1. Zieler
2. Moffat
5. Cathcart
6. Wootton
3. Gill
8. Possebon
4. Evans
10. Norwood
7. Stewart
9. Brandy
11. Ajose

Bench:
13. Devlin
14. Eikrem
15. Cole
16. Keane

Good to see Eikrem back from injury, and Cathcart too. Not as many Academy players as expected.

I've been doing crap at keeping up with the reserves this season. How long has Possebon been back?

Pogue with his usual incorrect team selection. At least this time there was no "definately".

Dear God, is nothing sacred?

Fuck off out of this forum and don't come back. For pity's sake, this is the one part of redcafe that's a spastic free zone.

Or used to be, anyway...

Odd that none of the names I mentioned (King, Pogba, Petrucci) started on Saturday, or made the squad for tonight. Injured? Rested for Thursday?

Pogba to join Scholes and Fletch in midfield, or King up top with Berbatov on Wednesday?

Got Hargreaves place in the CL squad and Brown's injury means he's in with a chance of getting on the bench.

Stockport come nearest to scoring from Wootton's sliced attempt at a clearance that Zieler does well to save, and then a goal line clearance.

Stockport working hard and United have got in good positions but been wasteful so far.

There's quite a few players who really need to be moving on at this level - Brandy, Hewson and Zieler in particular spring to mind, and Stewart and Ajose could both do with going out on loan too.

EDIT: Possibly a bit early for Stewart and Ajose to go on loan, but Evans and Norwood could certainly do with some first team football.

This is about as bad a half as the reserves have produced all season.

He was at Altrincham, I saw no reports of how he got on. He looks extremely rusty.

Keane for Ajose.

Slightly better half so far, no clear chances created yet though.

Sorry guys, this is my fault. Whenever I remember to watch the reserves, they always turn unaccountably shite.
