French main sport media L'Equipe confirms that Manchester United has signed Davide Petrucci for three years and 250 000€. His salary is thought to be around 120 000€ per year.
He was the best scorer for Roma's reserve last year though he is only 16 years-old. Italian international. Scored 14 goals in 19 games with the Italian U18 (i think). http://www.forza-roma.com/wp-content...s/petrucci.jpg |

I'll give it a shot and pick out the main points...
"Manchester United, as it is at this point tradition, spend big and attract the best young attacking Italian talent. For the Red Devils, after the previous signing of Giuseppe Rossi, they have signed also David Petrucci (16). A lucrative contract for a youngster, the maximum for which a team can sign an under-aged player on. Roma had offered the basic minimum, in order not to isolate the player or offend his teammates. That proved to not be enough, Petrucci flies to Manchester. [Not sure what the part after it means, may be that he'll arrive in a month]. Roma will receive the Fifa compensation package for the club that has formed the player; a figure that will be gone around between the 200 and the 250 mila euro." Not too sure about the financial conversions so I left most of them out, they're the main points though. |

To be honest if he's as good as is said (and judging by our previous Italian snafflings he probably is) then it seems a bit unfair they only get 250k euros for him. Would have thought it would be at least double that. It would in England anyway.

Poaching:
Would not worry anyway he will probably get better and better at OT then just before he breaks into the first team he'll be sold-like Rossi-et al....still if he helps spread a bit of Italian sunshine round OT that will be good. Oh and we will sell him for more than we bought him for so everyone's happy. |

A couple of points on this.....
1. We have paid significantly more compensation for other players from other clubs as has been mentioned.......but English based players......even at that level are ridiculously priced in the transfer market... 2. Other clubs have 'poached' our players over the years and we have not asked for any 'compensation' from them......luckily from United's perspective, very few if any have gone on to embarrass us years later..... 3. Compensation is based on many factors.....how long the player has been at a club being one.....so for example with Cofie he had only been with Burnley for one season.....hardly enough time to for them to claim that had a 'massively significant' impact on his development....having said that it appears that Petrucci has been with Roma for 6 years... 4. All this bleating from the Italian and Spanish clubs about us poaching their players.......they have been poaching and continue to poach young South American and African players for years!!!! Talk about double standards! If they want to keep their players....then change the system and pay then more! 5. Look at Real Madrid with Ronaldo....OK so he isn't young like Petrucci but it's the same mentality........ 6. What is stopping Italian clubs coming to England for talent? 7. As always United get a bad name with this sort of stuff.....if you look at the youth teams of virtually every club in England.....they have foreign talent in the sides..... Let's hope he turns out to be a good player and I'm looking forward to seeing him in the juniors next term.... |

last time i checked people had a right to choose where they lived or worked. so i'd see no issue with the so called poaching thing. If he's a good player, Manchester United should be in for him. we should compete for all the top kids.
Are we supposed to maintained an old fashioned english manners mentality? No, after you dear chap. You want him, then have him. I still think the 12m for Mikel from chelsea was brilliant lol |
