Sheff Utd vs Man Utd (Academy)

------------------Amos-------------------

Derbyshire----Brown----James----Dudgeon

Eikrem----Drinkwater---C.Evans---Galbraith

--------------King------------------------

------------------Macheda----------------

Subs: Gill, Stewart, Norwood, Brandao

More of the sort of side we expect, should be exciting to see how the King-Macheda partnership works.

Sheff Utd 0-1 Man Utd

Macheda 4'

What a goal; his first real impact. Ball played to him in the box, he showed great skill to take it past the defender with the outside of his right foot and then struck it low and hard into the bottom corner from about 14 yards...no backlift at all. Great goal - 12 goals in 17 starts for the Academy.

Sheff Utd 1-1 Man Utd

Adams 28'

Well worked goal with a cross in from the right and a header in off the bar, though we haven't been able to deal with anything they've put into the box. A poor man's Nani celebration to round it off too.

Cheers for the reports virtuoso. I've only seen Macheda in the reserve games he's played but he looks a real talent.

All of a sudden, it's looking like we have quite a substantial amount of talent in the academy as far as strikers are concerned.
Good stuff.

Sheff Utd 1-1 Man Utd (HT)

Good half, end to end stuff. Both sides have went for it from the off, our defensive errors have contributed to their attacks - we don't seem capable of dealing with wingers running at our full backs and then the centre backs fail to impose themselves in the box - Sheff Utd have regularly won headers and have went close.

We've looked dangerous on the attack too though. Eikrem and especially Galbraith have caused problems getting to the byline and cutting in. Macheda's not had much supply but made and took his goal superbly well, only shame is that Joshua King has been very quiet. Hopefully he can get into the game more and really run at their defence with his pace in the second half.

Exciting match so far Though no clean sheets in 8 games is a bit of a worry

Havent really seen much of James before, looks quite impressive, liking his tackling. Eikrem is so slight, he needs to eat some pies or something.

I'm surprised he's playing at centre back, usually he plays in the centre of midfield and has represented England U17's playing there too. But yeah, looks a decent player.

Dudgeon off Stewart on, 58 mins.

Cameron Stewart goes to right wing, Eikrem left wing and Galbraith left back. King is doing better now but being closed down by their defensive mids, Corey Evans misses a great chance after good work out wide by Stewart just now.

How do you rate Drinkwater? Ive been very impressed with him so far this year. He's developed alot in the last 6 months. Sheff Utd are starting to get a few chances here, weve stopped passing the ball at the moment

Yeah he's performed better than I thought, this season he has been really assurred and imposed himself on games as well as getting a few goals and assists.

And yeah, they're keeping better possession than us...we've lost our fluency a bit.

Eikrem off Norwood on, 70 mins.

Yeah we've created a few now, Drinkwater and King went the closest. Last few minutes now and could go either way.

Sheff Utd 1-1 Man Utd (FT)

Stewart was played through at the end with a great through ball by King, but he didn't make the most of the chance and was substituted after having come off it quite badly. Brandao came on for the last few seconds.

We had more chances but they kept better possession, if we had been able to keep the ball better then perhaps we'd have built up more pressure on them and got the victory. Federico Macheda really fought hard as he wasn't given many chances but closed down defenders and came short well, King improved as the game went on. Eikrem and Galbraith were threatening, whilst Drinkwater connected the play well in the middle. Defence still looked shaky in truth.

Thanks, Virtuoso. So Macheda's work-rate was good then? I've been under the impression he's a bit lazy after Matty James named him the worst trainer and 'extremely laid back' in the academy section of Inside United.

He is a bit laid back but to be fair, yesterday he gave his all for the side. Last season, Welbeck was said to be "lazy" as well but this year he's been running up and down for the side...hopefully Macheda will learn to do the same without sacrificing his goal-poaching nature.
