U/18's v Ipswich

United drew 2-2 with Ipswich Town at Carrington this morning. Ipswich too the lead early in the game and had a second disallowed for off-side within the first 15 minutes. Ipswich had most of the play in the first half an hour but United forced their way back in the game as the first half concluded. With Febian Brandy injured, United played Sam Hewson up front alongside Anton Bryan but both struggled against a strong Ipswich defence.

On a rainy and windy morning, United made two changes early in the second half, Danny Welbeck and Chris Fagan came on with Hewson moving back into his normal midfield role and United started to dictate play. Fagan equalised with a nice dink over the Ipswich keeper before giving United the lead 10 minutes later. United had virtually all the second period and could have scored two or three more. Corry Evans made a welcome return from injury replacing Danny Drinkwater with Conor McCormack moving to left fullback. Evans started dominating the play and United looked good for a win. Unfortunately some late pressure from Ipswich, forced Zieler to come out for a high ball which he missed completely, and from the resulting goalmouth scramble, Ipswich equalised in the last minute.

Team: Zieler, Eckersley, Drinkwater, Chester, Cathcart (c), McCormack, Eikrem, Derbyshire, Bryan, Hewson, Galbraith

Subs: C. Evans (3), Amos, Welbeck (9), Williams, Fagan (8)

Thanks, great info. Have you managed to find out the age of Welbeck and Williams?

I noticed on the main forum that someone was asking about Daniel Welbecks age, he is born 26/11/1990 and if someone interested Gary Woods d.o.b is 01/10/1990. I found this on a website containing informaition on the nordic u-17 tournament.
it would be nice to get a link to that homepage.

Just watched the 30 min highligts on MuTV, Eckersley seemed to give up the ball on every other pass. How is he rated amongst them who follows the reserves/youth on a regular basis?

Eckersley has put in a lot of good performances for the reserves and for Antwerp last year, however I don't think he will make it for us. It is likely he will end up at a championship club.

Thatīs Adam, he is talking about Eckersley, his brother. He was injured almost all last season, so he needs more games to be judged. He was reported to be very much like his older brother.
