thats nice of you, little harsh though.

You're a hard man. Seen any Championship recently? Because compared to some of the stuff served up there I think it wasn't too bad. For you Cathcart was head and shoulders your best player, honourable mentions to Brandy (a persistent nuisance), Welback (looked to have something else when he arrived) and Galbraith (tho' he should've scored late on). For us Merida and Randall had control of the CM without really creating much. I think the 1-0 was fair a draw would've flattered you. I also think you'll find it difficult at OT if you come and attack us.

I went too and it wasn't too good was it. A lot of poor touches. I thought Eckersley looked a little out of his depth against a good attack. Brandy should have scored when he crossed for Wellbeck in the first half.
Great strike for their goal.
The Mexican wave p*ssed me off because it always distracts the players and the crowd reaction to the play ceased.
I still fancy us to turn them over at home but we'll need to be a little cleverer in defence and decisive in attack, imo.

I went to the game last night.

Having watched United youth teams for quite a while, I have to say I am disappointed with last night.

Brandy looks really useful and has a chance, while Hewson and Drinkwter controlled the midfield. At the back Cathcart was very good - lots of Bobby Moore like tackles.

Disappointed with the likes of Wellbeck (who has an attitude) and Galbraith who has no pace - considering we spent a lot of money on him from Hearts, I was surprised.

As for the rest, I doubt they will make it, certainly not at United.

Having watched the game on MUTV now I have a slightly different take on one or two of our chances not taken and our defensive frailty. Not having a screen replay in the ground on the night made for a less enjoyable game for me imo.
Funny how you get used to it. When I first started going to Old Trafford in the 70's as a 10 year old I never actually saw a match, only felt and heard it..
We were a little better than I thought.
I think I'll come up to Manc for the Monday 2nd April game. We do HAVE to get more than 38,000 and really sing. There were thousands of kids from the local community in for nowt I heard. Come on, let's do the same. My 15 year old daughter really enjoyed it, wondering why anyone would sing a song about Tottenham and what a yiddo was..

Perhaps I was a little harsh. I was surprised Arsenal weren't better than they were. It just wasn't a very good game to watch to be honest. It was very frustrating watching United panic every time they got anywhere near the Arse box.

i'd say it's a bit daft to write a player who's been recognised as one of the finest u-17 centre-backs in europe off just yet. he's not quick by any means but he's not a slouch, and he reads the game extremely well for one so young. i can see where the cumbersome description comes from but the kid's still developing physically.

Your ability to rate a player and distinguish what you see is very dodgy.

His style maybe languid, lending to belief that he is slow, but he is VERY quick of feet & mind.

Having seen the likes of Paul McShane and Mark Howard at the Youth team level, I would say they were both better.

If you check out my earlier mail you would see I said he was very good last night. However, he will never make it at United (IMO) as we have too many centre backs already, none of whom are that old.

Also, what makes your ability to rate a player so good?.

He did read the game well, but that is not enough.

£5 (assuming you're neither under 16 or over 65, in which case it's £2), and you pay on the gate.

it's not enough, but it's hugely promising for someone of his age. there's nothing he lacks to an extent that you can dismiss his chances entirely, and i'd put him well above McShane and Howard at the same age. you may well have a point about his route to the first team being blocked by other younger centre-backs (Evans, Pique etc) but that's a bridge you have to cross if he fulfils his potential and progresses as hoped.

Grrr I went to Arsenal to try to watch Eikrem and James Derbyshire particularly. To my dissapointment Eikrem want even in the squad, and Derbyshire didn't get on.

Tried to find some United fans before the game, but there were very few of us there.

I thought Richard Eckersley looked very solid and Danny Galbraith looked good aswell. Galbraith made a fantastic run in the second half but just ran out of steam before he could hit it.

Cheer double for me at Old Trafford guys!

Why? People will fly out to LA just to watch David Beckham. Theres no difference, except Beckham has a higher profile.

I've never claimed that. On the other hand, you claim with such certainty ("NEVER") whether a player will make it or not.

I'd agree with that summary

Nice to see the stadium...class, though why is it all wavy at the top? They could have got thousands more seats in.

A defeat was a bit harsh, we were the better team in the first half, good finish mind.

Brandy started really brightly, Hewson was excellent as he has been the last few matches, Cathcart had a good game but re the discussion, no, he won't make it at United.

Spinoza turned up munching the sauteed leg of a pangolin, as expected.

We'll do them at OT, no question.

I only saw him 2nd half because i was sat on his side behind the goal and he looked decidedly shaky, caught out of position and a little on the small side. I thought he could have done better before Gibbs' goal. I expect he did well in the first half then.

I agree Cathcart was by far our best and most consistent player, looked a good leader. Ive seen him a few times and he's been solid, but on Wednesday he was by far the best player on the pitch IMO

Very evenly matched teams and United still have a good chance of getting to the final.

Record attendance in the Youth Cup at the Emiratrs with 38.000
I was at the Youth Cup Final of 93 against Leeds and I'm sure there was 42,000 there?

I was at that match as well, I seem to remember the ground being full but not according to this.

http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/TheFAY...arberStory.htm

Monday's crowd was the largest for an FA Youth Cup match outside the Final and Semi-Finals for at least 15 years.

These have been the top six Youth Cup attendances since the 1991-92 season:

* 31,037 - Leeds United v Manchester United in the 1993 Final second leg
* 30,562 - Manchester United v Leeds United in the 1993 Final first leg
* 24,000 - West Ham United v Coventry City in the 1999 Final second leg
* 20,600 - Liverpool v West Ham United in the 1996 Final second leg
* 20,190 - Manchester United v Tottenham Hotspur in the 1995 Final second leg
* 18,651 - Aston Villa v Everton in the 2002 Final second leg

Making my youth team bow tonight given they're playing at OT, I suspect I won't be on my own in that regard...
