DALLAS (Feb. 6, 2006) MLS -- FC Dallas President and General Manager Michael Hitchcock announced today that the club has acquired the rights to and signed former Manchester United forward and Dallas native Kenny Cooper. The 21-year old forward, who graduated from Dallas Jesuit High School in 2003, returns to the United States after spending the last two-and-a-half years at United. Per league and team policy, details of the contract were not disclosed.
"It's not every day that a player of Kenny Cooper's caliber leaves one of the top club teams in the world to pursue his dream of playing professional soccer in his home town," Hitchcock said. "This is a great day for FC Dallas, Major League Soccer and the entire Dallas Soccer Community."

Cooper, was born in Baltimore, Md. but moved with his family to Dallas at the age of 14. The son of former Dallas Tornado great Kenny Cooper Sr., Cooper played his club soccer with Solar Soccer Club in Dallas while also playing under Charles DeLong at Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas. Following his high school career, Cooper was signed by English giant Manchester United, the club at which he has spent the last two-and-half-years.

Hailed by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson as one of the club's best youth and reserve team prospects, Cooper was a regular in United's reserve team since his arrival while also experiencing loan spells at English club Oldham Athletic and Academica Coimbra in Portugal. "We've been chasing Kenny for a couple of years now, we obviously were very aware of him seeing that he is from Dallas and was then at Man. United. Myself and Steve (Morrow) have seen him play three or four times in the last 16 months so when the opportunity arose and Kenny made it known that he wanted to come back home we jumped at the chance," FC Dallas Head Coach Colin Clarke said. "He is a young, strong forward who I think is going to do very well in this league and score a lot of goals, so we are thrilled to have him at FC Dallas."

Craig signed professional terms yesterday (6.2.06) on his 17th birthday.......the former Glengormley High School attendee has impressed United coaches since his arrival from Belfast last summer. Craig played his schoolboy football for Greenisland Boys Club, the same team that produced the Evans' brothers. Craig has been a regular in the Northern Ireland Youth team after winning schools honours for his country................

Rossi's record for the reserves is as follows:

2004/05 - 20 appearances + 3 sub with 16 goals
2005/06 - 17 appearances with 21 goals

Total Appearances - 40
Total Goals - 37

Additionally, Rossi scored 5 goals in 7 games for the Pontins side and 4 goals in three games for the Under 18's during 2004/05. This makes his total for 2004/05......

Assists are something that we don't normally keep track of here in England. It is very much a USA thing. I know that SKY have been keeping records for Premier League games but I don't know anyone who does this for junior games........

A bit strange. In Norway we have both assists, goals per minute and a player rank (which find the average of the player ratings given after each mathes).

You might say that a ranking like that is not any good, but if you have a look at this, I find it much better than the Actim Index:

Fabien Brandy just scored, 3 mins into second half, in the FA youth cup game against Charlton.

Current Scoreline at 50th min 1 - 1

It's no good listening to Neville's commentating the match at 4am.

Edit: Good turn by Campbell to shake off the defence outside the box before his shot took a deflection and lobbed into goal. Utd 2 - Charlton 1
About 11 mins + Injury time left.

Edit: 90th min Aaron Burns came on for Sean Evans. 2mins of stoppage time.

Edit: 91:30 Danny Rose yellow carded.

Edit: Full Time 2 - 1 from Old Trafford. Goals by Brandy and Campbell. Could have won by more, kinda disappointed by Sean Evans' miss in the second half. It was a really great shot!

United through to FA Youth Cup Quarter Final, against Nottingham Forest or Manchester City.

Captaincy Tipped To Focus Neumayr

Rene Meulensteen has revealed the motives behind his decision to make Markus Neumayr his new Reserves captain.

The German midfielder was handed the skipper's role against Newcastle last week, and responded by turning in an all-action performance - precisely the response Meulensteen had hoped to provoke.

"There are two reasons why I've made Markus captain," Rene told ManUtd.com. "He's one of the few remaining regulars so he needs to take over the mantle of being the older guy.

"On the other hand, I wanted to give him the armband to give him more responsibility because that is part of the game he needed to develop."

While Neumayr's ability with the ball is unquestionable, Meulensteen is eager to cultivate the German's off-the-ball committment.

"He's very nice on the ball but he tended to slip away a bit when the defending needed to be done. By giving him the armband there's no hiding for him," said Rene.

"Physically and mentally he needs to be an example for others, and also in terms of defending as well - tracking back and getting tackles in.

"He's feeling the responsbility more and more and hopefully it will have a positive influence on his development as a player."

Just got back from Old Trafford, bloody freezing!! I'm colder than I would be coming back from watching the reserves.....

Onto the game, a very even game to be honest and though United won with an odd sort of goal a draw wouldn't have been out of place as such. Though extra time and pens would have followed.

Charlton started better than United and there defence dominated a United attack made up of Campbell and Brandy. Neither really saw the ball in the first half, and any attacks were dealt with well by the Charlton team. Jamie Mullen wasn't on top form, he was tending to keep hold of the ball longer than he should, though any crosses he did put in were normally very good and ones which could have caused problems.

After with holding the first 20 minutes, Charlton broke well down the right and scored a very well taken goal. Though slightly against the run of play, Charlton then started to control the game and could have made it 2-0 prior to the break.

The second half started well with Brandy robbing the Charlton defence on the edge of the centre circle in the Charlton half and then neatly placing the ball in the net beyond the advancing keeper. United took charge of the midfield in the second half with excellent performances by Danny Rose and Darron Gibson. Chances were being created, but nothing clear cut enough to take the lead. Then, just as you though extra time would be needed a bit of luck took United through. Campbell picked the ball up on the edge of the area, neatly turned and shot. The ball was deflected and span into the air, the keeper watched it, felt it was going wide, left it and on bouncing the spin took it into the net, much to the horror of the keeper.

Apart from a last minute corner in which nearly every outfield Charlton player camped themselves on top of Zieler in the United goals, they didn't create anything to suggest they would have snatched an equaliser.

I would like to see neumayr step up to the first team.From reports on him and given the captaincy,he got a good chance.Giving the captaincy to him is a really smart move by Rene to improve neumayr's defensive side and responsibilty.I guess it was around 2002 that i read we had signed a talented german juvenile deliquent and i really wanted this lad to make it.If he makes it to the first team,i guess he's our first german player other than Ron Zieler.

I have never seen this before.....as I have said...we have only recently seen these things with OPTA and the like......

Over the last few years...the newspapers have been doing a Fantasy Football League with points and so forth......assists have been given with this, together with yellow cards etc......

But before the advent of this....the UK has not used these type of systems...at least for football anyway........and as a consequence...reserve and junior football has none of this at all........

As you can see, United had most of the possession and Zieler had nothing to do except pick the ball out of the net in the first half and deal with some crosses in the second.

Both teams emerged from the tunnel with United in their traditional colours and sporting black armbands to commorate Munich. Charlton played in a white strip. The pitch was very poor and extremely bumpy and the rain pelted down right from the kick-off. United defended the Stretford End in the first half.

Team: Zieler, Gray, K. Lee, Cathcart, Shawcross, Rose, Mullan, Gibson (c), Brandy, Campbell, S. Evans. Subs: Burns, Amos, Hewson, Fagan, Cleverley

United played a traditional 442 with Brandy and Campbell up front. This meant that Sean Evans was used as a left winger. Darron Gibson returned from a wrist injury to replace Sam Hewson. Although United had the better of the first 15 minutes, we couldn't get our passing game together and reverted to playing the long ball. Charlton came back into the game and started getting some decent possession. Then on 22 minutes, the right winger beat Kieran Lee and crossed the ball into the penalty area for the centre-forward to head home. Although a good goal, we should have stopped the cross. Zieler had no chance. Charlton were content to break up the play and gave away many free-kicks. In the first half United had only one shot on target and were not playing well.

Half time 0-1

At the start of the second half, United started to play their passing game. After a disappointing first period, Gibson started to take more control and Danny Rose came into the game more. Within four minutes, a defensive slip allowed Febien Brandy to run at goal and slip the ball past the keeper. 1-1!
The goal seemed to settle the Reds and we started taking more and more control. Charlton's defence was very shaky and we cut through on a number of occasions. Sean Evans had an opportunity of making it 2-1 when he was clean through on goal but put his chip wide.

On 65 minutes, Hewson replaced Brandy and played just behind Campbell in a 4411 type formation. United were now starting to play some decent football and on 78 minutes, a blocked/shot/deflection (?).....need to see it again on TV.......from Campbell fooled the keeper and the ball bounced into the roof of the net. 2-1! United were now well on top. Gibson and Rose were both booked for fouls (ref was a bit petty as it wasn't a dirty game). Charlton put on three substitutions in a bid for a late equaliser, and although they had a bit of pressure in the last 5 minutes, the United defence was not in any danger. Burns replaced S. Evans on 90 minutes as United held onto their lead.

Overall we deserved to win without playing all that well. Obviously the pitch and weather didn't help. Best players for United were Gray and Cathcart in the first half.....in addition, Brandy and Kieran Lee played well in the second.

Not sure why Brandy was replaced, but remember he has not long returned from a broken leg and has not played that much football.

Finally, Jon Evans is still out with a groin injury and will be missing for another 4/5 weeks. Corry Evans should be back in the next couple of weeks...

Apparently the players have been told that the decisions have been made.....but NOT been told who will go and who will stay.......

Well done to the youth team. They fought back well on a difficult patch. Played really well the second half. Lovely goal from Brandy. Gibson in midfield, Cathcar at the back, Brandy up front and Evans on the wing particularly impressed me. And nice co commentating from Gary Neville, especially the way hed get excited when a chance fell to a United player.

FA Youth Cup Qtrfinal.

United will play City away. City beat Forest 0-3 last evening.

If we get past City, it will either be Newcastle or Brighton in the 2 legged semis.

Should be a cracking game. They are a physically bigger & stronger side, though we did beat them 2-1 at Carrington back in October. In the regional Academy league, they top the table with 1 pt ahead of Utd but we have a game in hand.

The match will be played before Feb 18. Actual date still undetermined. Jonny Evans will still not be back by then. Thought I read somewhere he's out for another 4-5 weeks.

I'm colder than I would be coming back from watching the reserves..... Onto the game, a very even game to be honest and though United won with an odd sort of goal a draw wouldn't have been out of place as such. Though extra time and pens would have followed. Charlton started better than United and there defence dominated a United attack made up of Campbell and Brandy. Neither really saw the ball in the first half, and any attacks were dealt with well by the Charlton team. Jamie Mullen wasn't on top form, he was tending to keep hold of the ball longer than he should, though any crosses he did put in were normally very good and ones which could have caused problems. After with holding the first 20 minutes, Charlton broke well down the right and scored a very well taken goal. Though slightly against the run of play, Charlton then started to control the game and could have made it 2-0 prior to the break. The second half started well with Brandy robbing the Charlton defence on the edge of the centre circle in the Charlton half and then neatly placing the ball in the net beyond the advancing keeper. United took charge of the midfield in the second half with excellent performances by Danny Rose and Darron Gibson. Chances were being created, but nothing clear cut enough to take the lead. Then, just as you though extra time would be needed a bit of luck took United through. Campbell picked the ball up on the edge of the area, neatly turned and shot. The ball was deflected and span into the air, the keeper watched it, felt it was going wide, left it and on bouncing the spin took it into the net, much to the horror of the keeper. Apart from a last minute corner in which nearly every outfield Charlton player camped themselves on top of Zieler in the United goals, they didn't create anything to suggest they would have snatched an equaliser.

Dino Reserve Team Player Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: Singapore Posts: 1,303	I would like to see neumayr step up to the first team.From reports on him and given the captaincy,he got a good chance.Giving the captaincy to him is a really smart move by Rene to improve neumayr's defensive side and responsibilty.I guess it was around 2002 that i read we had signed a talented german juvenile deliquent and i really wanted this lad to make it.If he makes it to the first team,i guess he's our first german player other than Ron Zieler.

They fought back well on a difficult patch. Played really well the second half. Lovely goal from Brandy. Gibson in midfield, Cathcar at the back, Brandy up front and Evans on the wing particularly impressed me. And nice co commentating from Gary Neville, especially the way hed get excited when a chance fell to a United player.

It may only be a mini derby, but all derby games are important and to knock them out of a cup at any level will be sweet.....

Red17 Reserve Team Player Join Date: Sep 2004 Posts: 2,758	FA Youth Cup Qtrfinal. United will play City away. City beat Forest 0-3 last evening. If we get past City, it will either be Newcastle or Brighton in the 2 legged semis.
