According to thefa.com Man Utd have 3 players in the England u-16 squad that will play against Wales in the Victory Shield. The players are: Nicky Ajose-07/10/91(d.o.b), Oliver Norwood-12/04/91, Cameron Stewart-08/04/91.

Conor Devlin, N. Irelands u-16s goalkeeper) plays for Greenisland bhoys (same team as the Evans brothers) and has been with our academy for 5 years. So said the commentator in the Sky sports Victoria Shield game on Friday.

England Under 17 Team UEFA Friendly Mini Tournament Belgium, England, Portugal & Spain 25-30 October 2006 Belgium Leeds youngster Danny Rose has pulled out of the forthcoming UEFA Friendly Tournament held in Belgium. The flying winger scored the only goal in the recent victory over the Faroe Islands which added to a fine double against Japan in the Montaigu Tournament while he was on Under-16 duty. But an injury means Rose will not travel with the young Lions and has been replaced by Danny Welbeck, a player with similar attributes. The Manchester United starlet has been in goalscoring form for his club's Under-18 side, netting twice already this season. His most recent strike came in the 4-2 win over Huddersfield when, having come on as a second half substitute, he rounded off the team's scoring. Welbeck, who was part of the England squad that travelled to the Faroe Islands for the Nordic Tournament in the summer, is due to meet up with the rest of his team-mates on Saturday. Two days later the England squad, headed by John Peacock, will fly to Belgium to prepare for their first game against Spain on Wednesday 25 October. The Lions then face Portugal two days later before completing their trip with a game against the hosts on Monday 30 October. Victory Shield - Wales v England
The Sky Sports Victory Shield
7.45pm, Friday 20 October 2006 Carmarthan Town FC Live on Sky Sports Kenny Swain's Young Lions were denied by Wales in the opening game of the Victory Shield, despite dominating the possession and shot count England had to settle for a 1-1 draw thanks mainly to the superb work of the Welsh keeper Jonathan North. With the majority of England's side making their debut at this level it was an important first step in their progression, and despite not getting the victory they would have desired there were a number of positives about the performance. With impressive work from Dean Parrett, John Bostock and Oliver Norwood in the midfield, England enjoyed a great deal of the ball and created a number of openings that could have resulted in goals on another night. Norwood and Thomas Cruise both hit the woodwork and North made countless saves to keep Wales in the game, but despite continually knocking at the door the Young Lions couldn't ultimately break down their stubborn opponents. Kenny Swain gave credit to Wales for their persistance during the game, although admitted that England perhaps should have left Carmathan with more than one point. He said: "I'm sure that the boys will be dissapointed with the number of chances we have had tonight not to get the victory we wanted, but all credit to Wales for the way they held in there. "Jonathan North was tremendous in goal for them and I think his was as good a goalkeeping performance as I have seen in a some years. "There was no doubt that we controlled possession of the ball and with the saves that the goalkeeper made we are dissapointed to come away with just a point. "You're always vulnerable immediately after you score and we'll be reminding the players of that in the debrief tomorrow. I think it would have been a different game if they hadn't scored so quickly after we did. "I really thought that we were going to score again in the first half, but as the game went on they became a more difficult nut to crack. "We can't forget that we have had the opportunity to look at the maximum number of players we could today and that is what this tournament is all about, seeing how players react in the international environment." Harry Forrester almost created the first goal for England after nine minutes, taking it past the Wales keeper and angling a fine cross towards Townsed at the far post, but his left footed volley went narrowly wide. The Young Lions took the lead after 12 minutes thanks to the impressive Nathan Delfouneso who showed predatory instincts from close range to follow up his header and force the ball home, although the last touch seemed to come from Wales' James Owen. Andros Townsend sent the inswinging free kick into the penalty box and Delfouneso climbed highest and forced North into the parry, before scrambling the ball over the line to strike the first blow in the contest. Wales were unbowed by conceding the opener and almost immediately levelled the scores through Leigh Smith, who did well to steal in front of Thomas Cruise and provide the finish to Nathan Hughes' fine cross. Although the home side looked dangerous in the early stages on the break, as the first half progressed England certainly imposed themselves on the match but were unlucky not to retake their lead before the break. England's two left footed midfielders, John Bostock and Andros Townsend, impressed with their approach play and Thomas Cruise went closest to scoring when he struck the bar with a stinging volley. Six minutes into the second period one of England's substitutes was part of a flowing move that called North into action once more. Manchester United's Nicky Ajose laid off the ball to Delfouneso who fired a curving shot towards the bottom corner but Wales' keeper was equal to the effort. On 54 minutes Oliver Norwood was denied by the crossbar as England continued to pepper the Welsh goal. It was England’s 20th attempt on goal and the guided effort from all of 25 yards was unfortunate not to find the net. Eight minutes from time Delfouneso again tested the reflexes of North with a fierce shot from a narrow angle, but a strong pair of hands from the Watford Academy keeper denied Delfouneso again. Academy Update
United Under 18's defeated a strong physical Stoke City team 3-0 at the Brittania Stadium last night. Stoke had requested that the game be brought forward to Friday night and played at Stoke City's ground in order to give their squad some experience in preparation for the FA Youth Cup.
The teams were fairly well matched in the opening period with both teams going close on a number of occasions. However, to be truthful, Ben Amos in the United goal had much less to do than his Stoke counterpart. Although Stoke played a more pysical game, it appears that our youngsters have adjusted well and know how to counteract this strategy. On 42 minutes, Danny Drinkwater, who had a very good game overall, broke down the left wing and made a great pass across the box for Magnus Eikrem to smash the ball home on the half volley to register his first goal for the club. In the second period, United were well on top and had numerous chances to add to their total. This they did in the 59th minute, when a clever free-kick from Eikrem allowed Sam Hewson to score from six yards. By now United were dominating the game. Antonio Bryan returned from injury to replace Christy Fagan and Matthew James replaced Danny Drinkwater. On 81 minutes Febian Brandy made in 3-0 with a shot from the edge of the box which just eluded the keeper after he got a touch. Kenny Strickland then came on to make his debut at this level, replacing Magnus Eikrem who had a fine game. His passing and vision were excellent. In the last ten minutes United had two or three more chances including an incredible bit of skill from Sam Hewson which deserved a goal. Academy Update
United's Under 16's defeated Stoke City 4-1 at the Pirelli Stadium yesterday. After a disappointing 1-2 defeat to Manchester City the previous week, the young reds were back in form and were too good for the Stoke juniors.
Team: Bulmer, Moffatt, Gill, "Swiss triallist", Strickland, Farrelly, Lampkin, James, Bryant, Potts, Dudgeon Subs: Longworth (3), McMaster (6), Gill (9), Farrelly (11) Gill and Farrelly came back on later in the game...... Goals: Bryant 2, James, Gill Regular keeper Gary Woods will be out for the rest of the season after sustaining an injury in training that required him to be taken to hospital in an ambulance. No news on what exactly happened as yet. It will look like Niki-Lee Bulmer and perhaps Conor Devlin will now share goalkeeping responsibilities for the 16's. The previous week, United lost to City 1-2. Bryant scored the goal but I don't know the full team. The following seven players did turn out though...Woods, Dudgeon, Strickland, Potts, Lampkin, Bryant, Ajose Finally, Floribert N'Galula is still out with his recurring hip problem. He hardly played at all last season, and has missed most of this campaign so far. More news to follow.... |

England U/17's drew 1-1 with Portugal in the UEFA mini-tournament in Belgium. Both Ben Amos and Danny Welbeck were on the bench and did not get a run. I believe that David Williams did make the trip due to his Asthma problem.
Evandro Brandao lined up for Portugal and was substituted with about 15 minutes left........ |

Former Manchester United `starlet` David Neville has signed for Principality Welsh Premier club Bangor City and went straight into the Citizens' line-up against Aberystwyth Town on Saturday in place of Ricky Evans, who is serving a four-match ban after being sent-off at Port Talbot Town.
Midfielder Neville, 20, has been playing for Middleton and has also been at North West Counties League outfit Oldham Town. Meanwhile, Aberystwyth manager Brian Coyne (pictured) has signed goalkeeper Karl Lewis, who played in that game against Bangor. Third choice stopper at Hereford United and a former West Bromwich Albion youth, 19-year-old Lewis has also played for Evesham United, Rugby Town, Stourport Swifts and Willenhall Town. Young Welbeck, who impressed Peacock throughout the whole week, enjoyed his special moment in the 35th minute as England cruised to victory - a result which meant England finished second in the UEFA Mini Friendly Tournament behind Spain. After England attacked the Belgium box, the ball fell invitingly for Welbeck who homed in on goal before foxing the keeper with a clever dummy and rolling home. "He took his goal really well," said Peacock. "He has had a good week. He has intelligence and technically is proficient. He has done well. I was pleased with Krystian Pearce too. He stuck to his task really well and made important blocks and headers." England doubled their advantage on 55 minutes with a goal that left Peacock purring. After good build-up in midfield, Henri Lansbury threaded a perfect ball through to Ashley Chambers who raced clear before beating the keeper. "It was a super goal - it showed what we can do," said Peacock. The victory meant England, captained on the night by Chelsea's Michael Woods (below), concluded their trip on a winning note, having lost to Spain and drawn with Portugal earlier in the competition. Peacock was a happy man but warned his side that improvements still need to be made if they want to challenge the best in the world. "I was pleased with the result. We did not concede a goal and passed the ball well in spells, but at times there were too many unforced errors. We gave it away cheaply."
