Amongst Legends, how high up would you rate Giggs?

Had he been a Italian or a Brazilan he would've been certainly rated even higher.

The most exciting young talent of the 90's along with Ronaldo.

Only Ronaldo and Messi were better at the same age at least

from the 90's and 2000's.

A player who would've been a second tier great had he been more focused and consistent.

cristiano ronaldo at 17/18/19 couldn't hold a candle to giggs.

giggs is, for me, the finest player i have ever seen live. yes i am biased as he is my 'george best'. he is in that class. balance like he has gyroscopes in him. stupidly quick acceleration. ultra close control dribbling. didn't need the fancy tricks and flicks as much because his feints were so mesmorizing. what a player. he also has one of the most accurate tackles when sliding on the deck for an attacking player. even in the charity shield he showed his superb timing in the tackle. the longevity at top level football in a top level team at a position that burns through players quick is mind boggling.

i could go on and on about giggs all day. he personifies what modern day man utd is for me. even 70 years from now (yes cnuts i'll live that long...i'll be telling my grand children/great grand children about one ryan giggs).

He's in the top tier. If he had a brighter international career he'd be a legend in far more circles. As it stands to "outsiders" he'll be lumped with Best as a great player instead of legend.

Giggs is a legend IMO, but not in the same breathe as Keano or Ole. Not sure about Scholes though, I think he's about the same as Giggsy.

Keane
Cantona
Ole
Hughes
Robson
Whiteside
Coppell
Irwin ( yes, I know, but I think hes United most underrated player ever )

And loathe though I am to say it

Beckham...

Those are the players that I look back on and think "wow"

Giggs has been great for United, but as I said, I have never warmed to him in the same way I did for those players...

edit - Oh and another old time favourite of mine, Lou Macari...... How could I forget him.

Scholes and Giggs come under the "great players" category, but dont make it in the elite section..

There's no order of how legendary players are. People will always see them differently. Although, I do think it's safe to say that Giggs will go down as one of the most talented and exciting players ever to play in England.

right up for the best. but i would rate Scholes, Keano and Neville along the same lines. Giggs has been one of the most brilliant player in 90 along side Ronaldo, Zidane. Its just that the latter two played and won world cups. While giggs because of team couldn't win anything.

In terms of united top top legend, makes the all time starting XI anyday of the week.

In absolute terms, the best left winger of his generation. From 92 - 02 couldn't find a better left winger out there so up there with Figo, Ronaldo and Zidane as best of his generation.

i'm not surprised with your sentiments. a few of my die hard unite supporting mates share the same opinion too. on redissue some time ago i went on a spiel on how scholes gets off lightly from the match going support when he has a shite game or gets a stupid card in europe, but giggs gets slaughtered if he's not at his lofty heights week in week out (while playing in a position that you have to take more attacking chances in and you naturally arent as consistent due to the position requirements).

I think some of it has to do with the fact that the average supporter identifies with the likes of ole and scholes moreso than giggs. while giggsy is a top pro and has great loyalty, he was also the ladies hearthrob, boy wonder, and first million-pound boot deal man (IIRC) when becks was slogging it out in preston. from their public personas, scholes and ole seem to be just like you or i, except they have the beautiful gift to play brilliant football. giggs was the total package.

If he moved to Spain or Italy he wouldnt have been as effective. The English game suits him far more than the continental game.

Giggs is a great football in the PL, but you only need to have seen him for Wales to realise that against continental defenders he isnt as efective.

To an extent, the same is true of his European performances. On odd occasions hes been great, but hes never been the most prominent European performer for United.

In a nutshell, he would be like Beckham. Fantastic in this country, but average overseas..
