Given the fact you had people at the time praising his crossing in this thread and others I'd suggest it's more likely that you overlooked that aspect of his game at the time rather than him not showing it, the alternative is that people were seeing things.

To be honest I still don't think he is an exceptional crosser of the ball but his productivity is so good now you would be mad to complain about anything he does.

He's very good at crossing. One of his greatest strengths.

I think his ability to beat/out-muscle a man and get into a great position is his best strength. I can't think of any Beckham-esque crosses that have led to goals like you see Giggs and Nani do. His best type of cross is when he fires it across the goal-mouth. Just as effective but requires less technical ability.

Agreed. Giggs for instance is a much better crosser. Valencia's main strength is that he gets to the line so many times during the game that he will often get an assist or create dangerous chances from his drilled crosses.

It's been done before, that'st the how good a crosser Valencia is compared to Nani. Nani I do think has the ability to put some fantastic balls in but, that doesn't mean all Tony V. does is blast them across.

Just in the Liverpool game there was a nice cut back towards Rooney who was trailing behind and then there was the ball hung up for Evra coming in on the far side. He does't really play the bended cross, especially the early one well if at all but, that doesn't mean the crosses he puts in take any less technical ability as they are often put in a very dangerous place. To be able to do that doesn't take just whacking a ball, especially after he beats his man for just fraction and puts a cross in.

I'm sorry but if you have ever played football in your life you should know that a whipped in curling cross is a much harder technique then a stood-up or drilled cross.

The technique doesn't matter, each player will use what he's most comfortable with.Valencia's crossing is really good even if it's more brutal than the ones with more curve

He can't put in the magic crosses like Giggs and Nani but he is very consistent and I always feel when he's on the byline he'll manage to put a good cross into the box and find a man. In a way it's just as effective, as his assists record in recent months shows.

Drilling a cross is easy. Picking out a man with it is not.

That's why Valencia has so many assists. He doesn't just curl balls into dangerous areas, hoping someone will get on the end. He picks out a striker and puts the ball right on his head/foot. That takes a hell of a lot of skill.

He's the best crosser of the ball in the league! It's no co-incidence that Rooney scores when Valencia plays. Rooney loves playing with him.

I can't believe some of you are saying his crossing isn't up to much!

If he had a left foot he would be the best winger in the world.

It may be a harder technique but, your implication that what Valencia doesn't take any technique is laughable. I mean why aren't you playing in the PL if all it takes is just whacking the ball, heck why aren't all the PL wingers in the league able to put in as dangerous balls in as well as Valencia does? Because it takes skill (read: technical ability) to do so.

Someone that plays in a whipped curling cross may be able to do so but, that doesn't necessarily make them the better crosser, it just means they are able to hit the whipped curling cross. Better crosser means getting the ball into dangerous positions resulting in more chances for your teammates - which Tony V. is one of the best in the league at.

I think people who curve the ball for crosses are perceived to be better at crossing because it's more pleasing to the eye seeing the ball's bending trajectory.Beckham had the best combination of bending and precision but drilling precisely a cross is something very technical too, less "beautiful" but it still requires skill

Once he went down, I thought I saw him watch the move progress until the goal was scored. Hopefully that's a good sign.
