Apparently Man City were the "moral winners"...

Kompany on Twitter

Quote:
The fans, the players and every single person involved with Man City FC were incredible today. Definitely the moral winners of this game.
Richards on Twitter

Quote:
We lost today but in our heads we won! Out team spirit is inspirational! The fans kept us going for 90 mins! Thank u. Ctid
Sounds like a pretty big victory for them... and in turn, a crushing defeat for us on said "moral" standpoint.

Can imagine our players must be devestated. I'm not sure how we will react to such a huge loss... though I imagine being in the 4th round of the Cup might help.

They showed their bottle in fairness, annoyingly enough. Mentally it showed that they are getting there.

Still twaddle from the players though, it shouldn't really have to be something that you brag about.

Maybe the Moral Winners Cup can replace the FA one missing from their trophy cabinet.

Do you get something for taking the moral high ground?

I'm not sure they realise how vilified they actually are for all the spending If it was Wigan, i'd agree but it's a ridiculous assertion

This is the annoying result of our pants 2nd half, we should have left them feeling like they wanted to sit crying under a cold shower.

They might have showed some bottle, sure.

How the feck does that mean they have morally won anything?

It's typical City before the money shit this. They lost the game and are out of the cup. They won nothing, morally or practically.

Edit: Replied to this before the edit or only read the first line. Not sure, which.

He probably right - we should have destroyed them but instead we sat back and let them back into the game

Still we dumped them out of the cup in their own backyard so fuck off Citeh !

Richards must have not heard the away fans in the City ground singing after the match. Oh wait he was on his way home out of the fa cup. Jog on son.

city should be proud of their performance, losing their best player and down to 10 men, with no toure, balotelli or dzeko and they almost got back on level terms. Their team morale will still be intact after that game, sadly

City can have the moral high ground it's count for nothing in May, I do wonder what the City players thought of the Valencia pen claim though maybe show them a replay and tell them to shut the fuck up..

It's the sort of thing I imagine from them a few years ago.

You can take all the moral victory you want, but at the end of the day, it's another cup you're out of, and we're in the draw for the next round. Suck deez nuts.

Forever small.

Kompany's got a bit of gall for posting that as their club captain I think... it's his idiocy that's cost them the game in the first place. Irrespective of whether or not you think it's a red card (and I certainly do)... there was no need for him to go into the challenge the way he did. It was totally uneccesary and he was always running a risk of getting a red for it.

Moral Winners?

Fair play. It is near enough the only thing they can claim to have won the past 30 odd years

We've lost a few, and drew one with Newcastle on the back of poor refereeing....can't recall too much bleating from players.

Difference between ourselves and city.
Small club, small mentality.
If our players ever tweeted such bollocks after a defeat i'd be embarrassed.

This was the same reaction from Chelsea when we beat them 3-1 at OT earlier in the season. Let's hope Shitty go on a similar run.

What is not being highlighted is how dominant we were in the first half, that's the main positive for me. That said, Rio and Evra were shocking defensively and I still think we need reinforcements in that area.

If anything the result was a learning curve for Mancini. He can take something out of the game but the players can't. I didn't think the manager could strategize a system when going down to ten men but he did in the second half.

Had Kompany not been sent off, City would have just passed the ball with no purpose. Would it have resulted in a goal, maybe. But United looked very efficent in the first half, I would have banked on them to get a second goal regardless. The performance dipped in the second half but that was down to complacency -- perhaps thinking how many, instead of being professional.

Nothing wrong with them being proud of their 2nd half performance and trying to find some positives from the game.

It's using words like "moral winners" and "In our heads we won" that makes it ridiculous. They lost. They were in no way winners. They won nothing.

Come on FFS. They were losing before the red card, it was a red card and went 3-0 down by half time. Its only human nature that we would get complacent.

This wasn't the 2005 FA cup final- get to the final, dominate for 120 minutes and lose on penalties. This was lose the first trophy you've won in 35 years and your unbeaten home record in 90 minutes and cry about it.

So...beaten 3-2 by an 'underdog' team on the back of two successive defeats; losing their unbeaten home record; two goals by an out-of-form player who's the subject of intense media scrutiny; great victory, City...
