Ben Amos

Surprise start tonight, really expected Kuszczak to play.

I thought he was pretty solid, made a good save to deny Wheater. I don't think he could have done much to stop the goal though.

Thoughts?

Solid, not troubled much, confident (although it's not like it was a big match).

He will have far harder tests than that in future. But he did well against the opposition on display.

Wasn't really tested to be honest, did boro have more than a single corner? Good prospect though

Has a good command of the box which you don't expect from an 18 year old. Didn't have much to do and I suppose he only played because with VDS and Foster injured, we would be screwed if something had happened to PIG tonight.

Looked nervous, a couple of simple crosses almost bounced out of his hands again but not really tested by Boro tbh

Was good at collecting loose balls and was shouting early when coming to collect which is nice to see. Looks good he does.

Where's Zieler these days? Is Amos ahead of him?

Oh, I though TC was for some reason.

So is Zieler the usual starter for the reserves (discounting Foster) still? I'm confused - Who is further ahead out of him and Amos?

Mr. MUJAC or PS18 would be best placed to judge that Id say. Personally both have impressed me. Id say Zieler at the moment in terms of experience but i reckon Amos long term might to be the better prospect.

For the first time in a long time we seem very well off for quality young keepers. I believe Heaton is doing well on loan at Cardiff as well.

Tommy K to play on Saturday and the positions his to lose thereafter i reckon, the timing of the injury i think is unlucky for VDS...saying that i do expect that Tommy K will drop a couple of clangers and VDS will be back in no time

I really liked the look of Amos. He has that trustworthy goalkeeper look about him that unfortunately I never feel about PIG. He's a good height for a keeper and looks confident and assured. I think he's one to watch.

It'd be good to see him really tested though. I don't think he made a save.

I was glad to see the way he commanded the box and came out and caught the ball rather that flap at it.

Injury problems for Fergie could mean rookie keeper Amos playing against Bolton

Ben Amos could play for Manchester United against Bolton

Rookie goalkeeper Ben Amos, 18, could be thrust into Premier League action for Manchester United on Saturday.

Sir Alex Ferguson concerned over the fitness of his three first-team goalkeepers ahead of the match against Bolton.

Edwin Van der Sar (knee) and Thomas Kuszczak (thigh) are doubts while Ben Foster is definitely out with an ankle problem.

Amos played in United's midweek League Cup win over Middlesbrough.

He has worked his way through the Old Trafford ranks since the age of 11.

This is a slight concern. Not sure if Amos is ready for what is a crucial league match.

So would I. That's more to do with the fact that I don't trust PIG over my trust for Amos.

I think PIG is a good 2nd keeper but not quite good enough to hold down the No1 spot. He is a good shot stopper but doesnt have the command that VDS has.

Last time we handed a debut to a youngster (Pique), it was also against Bolton and didn't end well. Hopefully Amos does the job if he's picked.

He will be on the bench. Thats good for him considering that Foster and Kuszczak are out. He may even come on later in the game.
