Best ever season by a United player.

performance wise I agree. Ronaldo showed i'd say about 70% of his actual ability. He did have great games last season, like the final even but what really stood out was his goals.

The previous season he had a better balance and his performances were better, for me anyway.

I think the 20 extra goals, effectiveness and the fact that he led us to a title and CL double outweigh what he lacked in overall play last season compared to 06/07, however he still had many great games and performances, but the fact that he's scored 42 goals seems to distract from that.

I know but i'm not against what you said. Infact I even said i thought Ronaldos last season was the best by a united player. It was an exceptonal effort. let's hope next season he get's even better....playing for united

This season he was outstanding but it was all goals, he became a goalscorer but his actual performances were not as good in my opinion.

quite a few people still are, and I know there are more who haven't ventured into this thread who'd agree avec moi. Plus the fact that Ronaldo has been so "disloyal" these days seems to have played a part in their judgement > such as ukbob

More people seem to be saying it's Ronaldo than another player though, be it Cantona, Law or Keane, i.e. Ronaldo's gotten more nods than another player has...

btw, Striker10 is actually saying that Ronaldo's 07/08 was teh best ever by a United player, so perhaps you need to read a bit more carefully

He's been a completely different player this year and strangely enough it took one of IhabX7's videos to remind me of this. This year we have been watching another Thierry Henry. He's been ruthless in front of goal and produced moments of sheer brilliance. The complete forward, if you like.

However, last year i think he was a more dangerous player as he tended to run at his man a lot more which is something he did more in the final. Last year, Ronaldo would cause havoc every time he got the ball when he was on form. I'm unsure as to which Ronaldo i'd prefer but he's had 2 fantastic seasons either way.

Good thread, Keane literally dragged us through so many matches it was amazing. His consistancy is something I havent seen since. Obviously Ronnie gets all the plaudits but for me having someone with Keanes drive and commitment means more to me.

Say what you like, but cut half of that 42 goals we won't be even in the 4th spot.

Guys, he deserves the praise, the worship, he stayed with us during after the world cup incident, and even if he indeed leaves us, he had paid clear all his debt to us.

Keane in 99-00 was superb, for me he had a better season than the treble. Van Nistelrooy and Scholes in 02-03 also worth a mention.

Also agree with Dippers that Ronaldo's form was better last season - but, contradicting myself, you could say his goals and finished product showed a different aspect to his game. Odd that we were saying he had no end product not long ago, now he has plenty of that but few assists and his general form wasn't as good. It's difficult to be critical of him because he has made a huge impact in the last two seasons but I still think he disappears against top opposition. I have only seen the one bit of footage of Law on youtube and he looked awesome. He looks like he invented the overhead kick!

But i've read a fair bit about Law because he is probably Scotlands greatest ever footballer. Also seen footage of him playing for Scotland against West Germany and he looked outstanding. THis is against THE west germans, beckenbauer and all and Law and Scotland for that matter looked exellent.

Fact that him and Best were best mates makes it all the sweeter and is such an important and significant part of the history of United. Ronaldo can score 50goals in a season but he'll never be a united legend like these guys.

I've watched them since before Best and it's just an opinion comparing their best single season. What's most impressed me about Ronaldo is the sheer variety of his goals and play - something I haven't seen from anyone else in the shirt over one season.

What you sat about Law is true. He seemed to be the fans' cult figure rather than Best or Charlton.
