I don't think anybody is particularly bothered that we lost. We didn't really get going until we were 2-0 down.

Rooney seemed to get his legs under him somewhere around the 60 minute mark. Win.

I'm bothered, such a lacklustre performance with Europe watching. Great thinking lads! Even Scholes off all people made an arse of himself.

Can't be positive about players that don't want to fight for the cause

Tevez for life

I'm bothered. It's a trophy at the end of the day and unfortunately we came to life when it was too late. I'm bothered about the fact that Carlos Tevez was running his bollocks off and nobody was remotely trying to put in the effort that he was putting in. That's it, we move on to the Dippers

No. But it can be used to motivate us. Never want to experience that again this season.

United never shows their real worth in Europe. European games have been quite boring lately except offcourse the odd results vs Roma. It might have won us a CL but that's not enough to emulate our great team of the late 90's early 00's...

Fair point that... still, it was nice to win it right?

I hope people now realise two things:

1. In our team, in most games especially against the cream of europe, we need a solid defensive type midfielder, be it o'shea, hargreaves, or to a certain extent, carrick (even possebon but thats pushing it). People slagging of JOS should be shot - he plays a vital role in our squad and should have started tonight.

2. we need proper wingers in the team. not fletcher. Happy park is back

3. Our striker combo would be better if its a striker (benzema, huntelaar, berbs) and any one of rooney/tevez.

4. Gazza needs a lot of time before he can challenge for RB again

Can a loss be a win?

That's what the gooners said after last seasons FA Cup mauling.

It's a glorified friendly to make UEFA a bit more money and give their directors a bit of a night out. I'm unconcerned, it made far more to Zenit who were comparing themselves against the best in the world. We had them on the ropes for much of the second half and with everyone to come back in we'll be far stronger when Europe really kicks in.

Dumb people might have figured out by now that Anderson and Scholes cant play in a two man midfield.

I think the jury is out on that.

Scholes and Anderson played well together last season.

Our problems today were due to poor wing play - Nani was rusty and poor; Neville didn't get forward like he can; Fletcher lacked energy and isn't a natural winger.

They didn't play well together whenever they came up against a decent midfield. When up against a poor one they did alright because we managed to overpower them, heck any team that has the likes of Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo should win most games.

You're right though about our wing play but it was O'Shea who made the difference in the second half.

Whole Europe watching?

I haven't watched Super Cup in years and wouldn't have watched this one either if United wasn't in it.

It's a meaningless game.

People seem to forget that teams such as Madrid etc have only won this cup as many times as we have, although having more attempts... Munich have never won it, it's hardly the hall mark of European greats. Too many drama queens on the Caf, there needs to be a cull.

It's the European Community Shield, simple as that. Nonetheless, it's always unpleasant watching opposing players run through your defence like a hot knife through butter.
