Cathcart, Cleverly and Possebon join United tour

Three Manchester United teenagers are flying out to South Africa to join the squad.

Defender Craig Cathcart (19) has been drafted in as well as midfielders Tom Cleverly (18) and Rodrigo Possebon (19).

The trio have all played for the reserves and will link up with United who play their final game in the Vodacom Challenge on Saturday in Pretoria.

Then the squad will move on to Nigeria for a friendly against Portsmouth before flying home.

will finally get to see possebon with the first team squad

he looks quality in the few reserve matches i have seen

Yeah, the remaining two games are far more important to the likes of Evans, Campbell, Eagles, Simpson and Martin. They're the players pushing to be part of the 1st team squad. They'll have priority when it comes to picking the team.

Possebon might get some minutes as a sub though.

I would guess that they are most likely to be involved in the Pompey game the next day. We are just boostinf our ranks in preparation for both games.

Martin does not have a chance at all. When i saw him getting pushed around by the Pirates, i have doubts if he can even get a start in a Championship club, the lad looked like a schoolboy player (i know of his talent, i've followed him in his Antwerp and Rangers days).

Possebon might see a cameo appearance over Gibson. Cathcart is still far too young, Cleverley's inclusion is probably a reward for doing so well in the reserves.

he's been scoring screamers for teh reserves last couple of matches.

it's always difficult to predict these things, but you can't compare Anderson to him. Anderson's a prodigy, not every player is as well developed at that age.

Aye. It's incredibly difficult to plot the path a youngster will take. I'm starting to think Anderson may be one of those Rooney, Ronaldo, Messi, Fabregas, etc type youngsters.

There will come a day when he realises this and takes on about 5 players and scores.

Of the three, i'm most confident for Possebon. He is quite strong,, good passer, good engine and is getting confidence all the time. There is no rush. We are very strong in the middle right now

Cleverly and catchcart and possebon will get good experience from the trip.

If your good enough, then your old enough isn't it? Cathcart is an excellent player and whilst he's got little chance of breaking into the team this year unless of injuries, I have no concerns about him playing for the first team. My only concern is the road blocking him to the first team, right now we seem to produce excellent defenders, but have the strongest defence around, and on the whole the defence is quite young. It's proving very difficult to dislodge anyone, and will be for some time to come.

I'll be really interested to see Cleverley. We've a shortage of wingers just now and he's apparently come on leaps and bounds over the last year or so. I don't think he'll make it but I haven't seen him play for ages.

I sometimes wish that we can create a second team to play in the Championship or Division 1. Something like Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in the La Liga. The only ruling being that these B & C teams are not allowed to get promoted even if they finish top of the league. The point being that they get regular competitive games at a higher level than the youth league.

I'm not, we are nearing towards the start of season and our first-team players need some action to be prepared. Behind them there are players who have already had some first-team experience like Martin or Eagles who will step in. I don't really expect any of those three players who have just joined the squad to participate in those games.

As for Cathcart, if someone is interested, we will certainly let him go. I don't expect him to make a grade at United but it's time for him to show some potential so that other clubs can snatch him and provide an opportunity to make a proper career.

Not all our players have to make it at United but I feel that too few of them make it in serious football at all. By serious football I mean leagues where you can make a decent life for you and your family.

He is. Anderson is a bit special. He has taken over a completely new role at United this season and performed brilliantly. He will probably start playing a different role next season which will make way for him to score goals.

It took Ronaldo 3 months to score his first goal for United even though he was a winger and played far more offensively than Anderson does. Then as far as I remember he scored another goal after another 3 months.

He won't become as prolific as Ronaldo but he can be a 10 goals-a-season kind of player.

It looks like Cathcart will get some time on the pitch over the weekend, as BBC are saying that Rio has flown home as well as Wes.

Hope all goes well for Rio and his fiancee with the baby. That leaves only Vida, Evans, as our only central defenders, though of course O'Shea, Neville and Tweety can all play in the middle. However, over the course of the next couple of games, I'm sure we'll see Cathcart either as a sub or possible starter.

Shit. Rio looked way out of it in the last game. He needs matches.
