Congratulate or be bitter?

2006 Sir Alex Ferguson

Quote:
"Chelsea deserve all the plaudits they will get and, especially on their home form, they are worthy champions."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...em/4933716.stm

2007 Jose Mourinho

Quote:
"I have to congratulate the champions, the players, the manager, the fans, the board; all the people that helped them to be champions.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...ea/6630789.stm

2008
Avram Grant

Quote:
"United had a great season, played very well and are champions," said Grant.
"I especially want to congratulate Sir Alex Ferguson. He is a great manager and a great person."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...em/7395137.stm

Arsene Wenger

Quote:
"My message to United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is congratulations for the achievement - and get ready for the fight next year."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...em/7381801.stm

2009 Rafael Benitez

Quote:
"Normally you have to be polite and respect the other manager but during the season we have seen a lot of things that I didn't like, so that's it.

When Jose Mourinho comes across as more gracious in defeat than yourself, you know you have problems.

I don't know why everyone is so angry about this. For me, it just enhances the pleasure of winning this championship. The bitterer they get, the happier I am.

Benitez is the best example for future managers of how not to be.

Those quotes say a lot.

Mourinho was supposed to be seriously arrogant, and he was, but he could still respect Fergie and recognise when a team other than his totally deserve to win the league.

Grant was so close to winning the league with Chelsea, it must have really hurt to lose out, but he still congratulated.

Wenger has really been a major rival to Fergie for over a decade now, and there have been lots of fallings out and tense moments over the years, but there is still a respect between the two managers and Wenger still recognises just how great a manager Fergie is.

Benitez shows little respect or class. Instead of biting the bullet, stowing some of his stupid pride and acting like a big man (not in the John Terry sense, the real sense), he acts like a clown, making ludricrous statements about corruption and cheating, disrespecting a manager than outclasses him in every sense and refuses to see that maybe, just maybe, another team might just be above his team because they are better. Not because of referees or money, but because they have a better squad and a more intelligent manager.

Show some respect to a legendary manager, Benitez. That's something that you'll never be.

That is a quality post. Mourinho is one of the most arrogant managers ive ever seen but Benitez shows even less class than him. His lack of grace is humiliating.

He really is playing the corruption card over and over again. It's a terrible accusation to make, and it's ridiculous that he's allowed to keep doing it without as much as a warning.

“I will say congratulations to Manchester United,” Benítez said. “They have done well, but I do not want to say too much. Normally you have to be polite and respect the other manager. During the season we have seen a lot of things I didn’t like, so that’s it.”
Slightly less cuntish, a begrudging congratualtions.

If you think back really hard you'll remember that Jose's 'and all the people who helped them be champions' was a thinly veiled reference to a conspiracy on the part of the FA and the referees etc.

It's obvious why Benitez is pissed off - Fergie obviously didn't leave a big enough tip.

It's not - he congratulates the club, grudgingly, but deliberately goes out of his way to NOT congratulate Ferguson.
