Corners
Had a feeling we could have gotten 100 corners yesterday and yet fail to get a shot on target.
But I would like to know what the actual stats were for yesterday. I don't remember us getting a single shot on target from what felt like a zillion corners. |

I'm not sure that this is purely a United problem - the quality of corner kicks, free kicks etc seems to have gone downhill across the board recently...it's rare to see a really superb set-piece these days.
Cue loads of Youtube vids of stellar set-pieces...

Does is even matter? We should just try to play it short. It's always dangerous. 2vs2 on the flank with the ball swinging towards the goal and the keeper can't come out because of player congestion. Not that Green is any good at catching those kind of balls.
Just a though. |

Yeah, I did think that. We're not the tallest of teams so perhaps Smalling and Vidic were the only options. We are quite poor at corners. I think the delivery improved when Valencia took them second half.

Unfortunately we are completely rubbish at them. I agree with the suggestion we should play most of them short - especially with Valencia back in the side who is just a beast on the edge of the area.

Valencia looked better taking them than Giggs.

I wish Gibson would take them more often. That match last season (in the FA or Carling Cup I think) where he took them all match was the best corner taking we've had since Becks. The occasional time he's taken one since then he's been a bit hit and miss, but I wish we'd give him more of a chance when he's on the field.

Is there some kind of record for going x corners without scoring from one?
Every other time from the corner we don't even clear the first defender. And Nani, Valencia and Giggs are all guilty of that. Have we scored once from a corner this season? |

The first leg against Chelsea I remember watchin Giggsy trying those dodgy little short corners that fizzled out on at least 4 occasions. Probli a training ground routine but after seeing it fall flat on numerous occasions it does get frustrating.

Who should? Nani is crap at it(strange as he was pretty great in his first season taking them), Valencia is not that better anyway, Carrick takes good ones and crap ones, Anderson don't even get me started.
Only leaves Gibson who doesn't start that lot and Rooney... |

Vidic and Smalling are decent at corners, and O'Shea ain't bad either. However, the delivery is consistently appalling. Is it beyond any player to whip the ball in with pace???
Giggs has a habit of floating the corner in, while Nani seems incapable of beating the first man. It's irritating. |

Nano hardly ever beats the first defender and when he does he usually beats the last defender as well. I am not saying that's a bad thing, but we should play to our strengths then. Keep a man ahead of the first defender and an other man behind the last defender with chicha sandwiched between the keeper and a defender in the middle.

United's corners are a running joke in our household - ironic cheers every time we win one.
If I was a defender playing against United I'd just smack it out for a corner at every opportunity. |

We've become an utter embarrassment at them, i vote we now award goal kicks to the opposition to save face and inevitable frustration.
