Okay, ignoring the muppets last attempt to salvage something from what looks like a post-Sneijder-trainwreck(referring to the Arsenal/Welbeck-links), this kid is going to be a bit special. I've said it from the first time he entered a first team match, you just see it in some players. Their confidence, that oomph and x-factor, that little something.. It's also why I've always said Welbeck is a better player than Macheda.

His awareness and first touch are amongst the very best in our squad, and he's a fantastic finisher to boot. Also, he's gotten a lot quicker the past two years and is really, really dangerous on the break. He could be pretty much the complete striker, and I will not be surprised to see him force his way into the first team more often than many believe this season. Poor Berbatov.

Considering £35M for Carroll, Welbeck is easily worth £25M +

They wouldn't sell us Nasri either...fuck off Arse...

With the caveat that obviously I like seeing all of our players doing well, I take great satisfaction seeing Welbeck do well - I love it when a lad comes through the youth system and then goes on to do well for the first team.

If he doesn't feature for the senior side on Friday night Pearce has asked that Danny be sent back to the U21s for their qualifier on Monday as they've had a few injuries.

Not necessarily such a bad thing. He's not had much football in the last 6 weeks.

Play him, Fabio, you're never regret it.

Don't tell me he thinks Darren Bent is a better option. If he was, United would have bought him.

I doubt it too. Everything seems to move sooo slow in international football. You have to put in quality peformances for a year quite often before you get a look in, then you start with some sub appearances.

Welbeck will probably get 30 minutes off the bench.

Wonder whether Wellbeck would want to play for U-21 now he's had a taste of the real stuff, I can imagine if Psycho asks him to join up, his replay might be "Sorry Stew Pot,my work here is done"

So when will the ABUs recognize that we have a class player in our hands in the form of Welbeck?
Most seem to find it difficult to recognize his potential. And have difficulty comprehending him in the England team.

It took nearly 18 months for Nani to be given credit as a player, his performances demanded?

Would be interesting to see when the general media starts getting on to the Welbeck bandwagon.

I think it'll be pretty quick especially after he scores his first England goal.

Welbeck is in a completely different situation to Nani, he's in nobody's shadow and doesnt have any part of his game that people might be upset by

Welbeck is pure class and on his form this season, should ahead of Hernandez.

People will jump on the bandwagon soon enough, however, they will also jump off it very quickly. Just look at Rooney or Rio

Danny: I became a man at Sunderland
By NEIL CUSTIS

DANNY WELBECK believes his time as a Black Cat turned him into a Red Devil and now a Three Lion.
Welbeck is hoping for his first England start on Saturday, against Spain, after an explosive opening to the season with Manchester United.

But the Manchester-born striker, who turns 21 this month, puts his form down to last season spent on loan at The Stadium of Light.

Welbeck said: "I went to Sunderland as a boy and I came back a man.

"I went there at 19 and came back at 20 more mature physically and mentally.

"It was the next step in my career to go out there and get games in the Premier League week in and week out.

"It was beneficial to me and like a stepping stone in my career. It allowed me to come back to United a bigger and better person."

Now after an explosive start to his season at Old Trafford he is determined to realise his full potential over many years at the club unlike some he has seen fall by the wayside.

Welbeck added: "It's always going to be really tough to make it at United. If you are coming through the youth ranks you see a lot of people come and go.

"I'm a Manc and I've been a United fan all my life. I'm not just a player, I'm a fan as well, so I just want the best for United.

"Every time I'm on the pitch I'm just going to give it 100 per cent. I've seen players go and I just don't want to do that."

Welbeck scored six goals for Sunderland in 28 appearances up front and on the left.

He hit four of them in three games last November, including one in their incredible 3-0 win at Chelsea.

But then he returned to United in the summer despite Black Cats boss Steve Bruce desperately wishing to keep him.

Alex Ferguson wanted Welbeck and put him straight into his starting line-up and was rewarded as he scored the openers in the 3-0 win over Tottenham and 8-2 trouncing of Arsenal.

The young striker would pick up a hamstring injury in that Gunners game but came back to score the first two goals in a 3-3 draw with Basel at the end of September and came off the bench to grab the clincher in a 2-0 win over Norwich.

Former United skipper Bruce knows the standards required to be a regular at Old Trafford and fully expected Welbeck to reach them.

Bruce said: "I'm not surprised at the impact he has had at United because, for someone so young, some of the things he did for us were terrific.

"We saw while he was here what a top, top player he is. I think Sunderland was great for him and he was great for us. Sir Alex said all along that Danny would only be with us for a year.

"There was no chance that we could keep him — certainly not after his performance in the 3-0 win at Chelsea!

"So it wasn't even worth asking the question in the summer. I'd have loved to have kept him, even on loan, but it was never an option."

Welbeck earned his first England cap while at Sunderland, appearing as a sub late on in the friendly with Ghana last March.

He also replaced Theo Walcott in the second half of England's final Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro.

Boss Ferguson has no doubt that Welbeck can be a hit for England. He has carefully overseen his development from youth team days to a handful of first-team appearances which brought two spectacular goals, before sending him out for a short period on loan at Preston then the season at Sunderland.

Fergie is convinced Welbeck does not only have the talent to be a United regular but an England one, too.

He said: "I think he's ready for England.

"He's got a talent as good as anyone in the English game — especially with the forwards.

"He has great belief in himself. He's a confident lad and intelligent. I think he's ready and I don't think there's any doubt."

On Saturday against the World and European champions the country might just find out.

Interview in today's current bun.

If I had to name my highlight of the season so far it would be Danny's emergence as a proper Manchester United player.

I don't think he'll be too happy. Not at his best tonight. Although he had no service whatsoever.

This is what I thought but he seems to be getting a lot of praise tonight. His contribution involved chasing down a couple of balls, linking up with Rodwell once and that's about it.

Not his fault because at that point England were sat camped in their half with no intention of doing anything positive. So he was pretty much alone VS 4 defenders. Certainly not enough to label it a 'great' performance.

He needs to start against Sweden. Lets see what he can do from the start and playing a good chunk of the match.

He was much more effective than Bent in holding up play. Hopefully opened up Capello's eyes for the Sweden match.

He was recognized because Bent was so poor upfront alone Welbeck came on and looked a lot better even from his first three touches...

As Pogue said he wasn't happy... Who would be having to only chase long balls, and having been the only target to hoove the ball too...

The exchange with Rodwell showed the difference he brings to the side compared to a Bent.

Don't get this. Did as much as he could do with all those long balls . The one two with Rodwell was about the only time he got the ball to feet. Don't see why this means he was 'not at his best'.

Yup. That and the run down the left wing. Passing was a bit off though. Horrible game to show what he can do, mind you.

I'm confused, Welbeck was suppose to be the target man so how was his passing a bit off when he hardly had the ball to his feet ? There was one missed place pass when he was running down LW and was trying to have a go at Pique... The rest were mostly off his chest no ?

Bent was the wrong selection today against Spain. The way they peg you back you need someone upfront that can hold up the ball for you. Bent is certainly not your guy. I could see him playing against Sweden as I think England will be more adventurous and at this point he's better in the box than Welbeck. However, I'd much rather have Danny play over Darren. I think we all know which one Capello will choose.

In fairness to Capello, I remember making a crack months ago that he'd probably play Carroll ahead of Welbeck just because Carroll was the big money player.

But he's been giving Welbeck playing time. He must be seeing the potential in Welbeck that we see. If Danny can get goals for United then I'm sure he'll get games for England.

Did as well as he could given that Hart kept booting it up to him but it wasnt even aimed at him. His hold up play is very good and he gets himself involved and puts himself about. Will take a real end of season stinker and / or injury for him not to start.

Or capello to be a cabbage.

Wasn't great but there was nothing he could do..Nothing more to say that hasn't already been said. Playing as a lone striker against Spain is hard enough when you're actually a hold up man, let alone if you're not...He did Pique for pace a couple of times. Probably the only "go on my son" moments of the match were his little sprints. Bit sloppy with possession, but Spain have a ridiculous work rate.

I've seen Barca live now twice (unfortunately against us) but this is the first time I've seen Spain (well, not true, but this Spain). It's the same principle. The amount of closing down is unreal. They somehow managed to have 3 or 4 players back at all times on just Danny, whilst trying to tiki taka their way through our whole team with their front 7. They put themselves about so much (and so well) that it is literally like they have 2 or 3 more players.

I thought his outing was quite gutsy. Loved seeing him run at them (albeit only had about 2 oppertunities to do so)

It has become quite clear he has all the attributes to become a quality player
