Darron Gibson's role this season?
Haven't heard a word about this bloke since his transfer went tits up.
I remember hearing he was injured but that was back in August. Is he still injured? Is he going to feature for United at all this season? If he doesn't is his Ireland career also on the skids? Maybe he'll be off in January instead? |

Play in a Carling Cup game of two, score a screamer, get sold in January. I don't see a place for him in the squad now, i was all for giving him a chance and in fairness he's done ok in Champions League games against German teams but other than that he's not mobile enough and not assertive enough. I hope we can get a few million for him and he has a decent career at a mid-table/europa pushing side.

In a word no.........To use a nautical analogy, He's basically a seacat in a world of normal ferries but both are alot different than a speed boat.

Contract up next summer, so i can see him just letting his contract run out. I can also see us not playing him at all given that he'll not be here next season, and playing younger and more promising players instead.

Same role as last season, sixth choice central midfielder.
He's been injured this season and we have, bar Cleverley, had everyone fit so there's been no chances for him. I could see him being sold in January but his role has not altered since last season IMO. He has never been a regular for United, even from the bench unless we have a few injuries, which we did last season with Fletcher and Anderson both often out. |

He won't get a game at Everton when they have Rodwell, Fellaini and Barkley. I know most people expect all of them to leave at some point as they might become too good for them but realistically they will try to replace them with someone better than Gibson. Newly promoted sides are around his level but I doubt any of them except for QPR could afford his wages.

I'm sure when he gets the call to pick up the boots, he'll duly polish them.

Hopefully he leaves in January and that's nothing against him it's just his career will stall so much if he sticks around at United. He's our worst "first team" central midfielder and simply won't get games to further his career. He's at a crucial stage of his career really and it will suit him to go to a lesser premiership club where I think he has potential to be a good player.
He can score goals and has a decent pass on him, unfortunately though I never think he was United class and it looks even worse now a lot of our midfielders are progressing and he isn't (though in fairness if he's injured or not playing he can't really do much.) |

Yep, and given his wages I think we will have to release him on a free if we want anyone to take him. We'll stil save £1m on wages during that half a season. We really should have tried more to sell him in the Summer, not only we'd have saved £2m (if he really is in £40k a week as reported which I'm not entirely sure about) but also got about £4m in a transfer fee if we were lucky.

Sad but true. We both know his future doesn't lie here anymore. It was bad luck that caused him to miss the last window. So this time i'm sure we will try and push something through because he deserves to play football elsewhere.
If it wasn't for that last minute injury he could have got a deadline day deal forced through. |

.I can only assume you did not see Keane as a young player at Forest or for Ireland. I'm afraid Gibson's not close to Keane's level of talent and I rated Gibson higher than most. The fact that he can has a decent range of passing and a good shot from distance does not make him close to what Keane was at a much younger age. Everyone in the UK wanted Keane from 91-93 as a youngster and all of Europe wanted him in 99 when he was at his peak. That's how talented he was. |

I vaguely remember Keano from 91-93. I do remember a penalty we got from his doing though. |
