Maybe it is a bit like Gareth Keenan's role in The Office. He always calls himself Assistant Manager. In fact, as David Brent always pointed out, he was Assistant TO THE Manager. Similarly, I have in the past assumed Phelan was Assistant Manager. But if he is merely SAF's assistant, then he probably is in fact little more than a tea maker and a procurer of plane tickets.

Well he's been behind Welbeck and Cleverley's development so he's someone I wouldn't mind seeing in the technical area. I like his ideas too.

Apparently up in the stands. Probably scouting Begovic

My guess would be a full game report on Rooney in midfield.

There was one point in the match tonight, maybe about the time we went 2-0 up and the cameras showed Fergie talking to Phelan. I'm no lip reader but it certainly looked like Fergie turned to him and said "and they say you're fucking shit!" after which they both proceeded to laugh hysterically.

You have to wonder what will become of our Mike, as well as Rene and of course the legendary Albert the kitman.

Will the new manager bring in his own back room staff?

I wonder if he is the reason why Pep Guardiola chose Bayern over us back when we met him in October. Maybe one of the criteria's of taking the job was you had to keep Mike Phelan as the AM.

Bit harsh, I remember him as the John O'Shea of that era, handy to have and could play in defense and midfield.

That's actually quite good! Funny, and not too complicated. I'd love to hear that at Old Trafford.
