Drogba is probably the best centre forward in the world and has been for at least 2 out of the past five seasons. I still don't think Rooney is best suited as an out and out centre forward but in years gone by he could easily be considered as one of the best support /deep lying strikers in the world.
However, seeing as the creative side of his game that we saw in his earlier years has more or less disappeared and he continues to play the centre forward role, Drogba is better than Rooney in every attribute required of a centre forward. |

Yeah and Drogba did get all those important assists against Liverpool, Aston Villa, Fulham, Man City, Sunderland and Birmingham as well as all the goals he's been banging i...oh wait no he didn't. He's been pretty far off being the 'best cntre forward in the whole wide world ever' this season.

When you got Carrol and Elmander on top of the goal scoring charts you know something is wrong with the top strikers. |

5 years ago maybe. He's more van Nistelrooy now than the spectacular alround dribbling technical super passing magician some people still imagine he is, because they've seen him back when he was 18-21. Nothing of that Rooney left. His dribbling is average at best now, his short passing inconsistent (nice hollywood balls across the field, his trademark, still work to 'wow' people though), but his finishing and sneaky positioning was deadly last season. |

Did he have the same dodgy ankle before his lengthy lay off in the middle of that saga? The thing is from the start of the season, Rooney has done his best to resemble a pub player or more aptly Leeds' Tomas Brolin whilst Drogba has looked like the top class striker that he is.

If you watched him this season and had never seen or heard of him before I doubt you'd be saying he looked that good. You are right about Rooney though, he's been awful. In hindsight he shouldn't have been risked in that second leg against Bayern. |

I respect his dedication but it doesn't mean we should rate his performances any higher than what they have been just because of it, they've been distinctly average for a while now. Rooney's had a dodgy ankle but I'm not gonna turn around and say he's been playing well because he hasn't. |

Drogba....if I had to choose one striker for my team it would be him.
He was top scorer in the PL last season with 29 goals and his overall tally was 37. Not bad going by any stretch and at 31 he's still as sharp as ever. |
