Cantona is a proper United legend

Ronaldo is not yet, and does not look like he is going to be
A great player for a year or two but never a legend, the other years he was Ok
but not great
However if he stays, it may be possible, but he has few bridges to re build first

No offence jason but I don't see any 'frightening' similarities.

Well none, aside from the fact I like colors too.

Actually the more I think about it the worse this thread gets.

If that was anyone else they'd be branded a WUM. If it was a newbie then it would be even worse.

I don't know what your problem is Jason.

Both Cantona and Ronaldo were born of women. But while Cantona called his mother mère, Ronaldo called his mother mãe.

Another freaky coincidence is that on his 16th birthday, Cantona wore a pair of corduroys. 19 years later, on Ronaldo's 16th, he wore a pair of jeans.

Both like watching films.

How fucked up is that?

My mam made me wear a pair of cords to go to the St Michaels school fair and I cried. I was twenty-three but still, it wasn't fair.

These 'similarities' are nothing of the sort. I've seen scousers talk more sense than that.

Yeah, but there is clearly a difference. Cantona is a legend, Cristiano Ronaldo will never be a legend

i love answering logical questions
first cantona left coz he did not want to affect the team if he could not perform at the peak level
second: he retired. not joining another team which may play against us
third: he was suspended for 32 games but he did had a chance to repay us

Indeed!

Cantona missing 32 games was not out of choice. His Kung-Fu kick was stuff of legends.

Can somebody at least change the name of this thread, or at least just all agree to let it die. I'm finding having it in bold amongts the first few posts quite offensive...

Ronaldo ha sonly played 2 seasons with us as a first team regular, with his position cemented.

Eric played 4 seaons at the highest level, compounded by that statistic of only 1 sub appearance.

Of eric goals, how many were winners??? i bet if that stat is worked out he would be miles ahead of christy....

Ronaldo has had 2 fantastic seasons, be we can all see the potential ahead of him... eric came when he was at his peak, we got his best 4 years out of him....

No similarity, only conspiracy....

This thread HAS to be a wind up. No Utd supporter worth their salt would draw a comparison between the King and Ronaldo. If this is a serious thread, I give up.....I really do

so you just ignore their other comments. Agree he is a classic modern brat though

I dont want to make accusations that turn out to be false but i have a vague recollection of the post in question and I think it *might* have been Sultan.

I think it was not as simple as saying he was a class poster. It said he was basically an annoying bell end at times but that he is intelligent and articulate and spent a lot of time and energy on the cafe as a mod, and so should be treated with some level of respect.

Might be thinking of a different post though.

Someone shouted me down for criticising what jason said last week and said he was a top poster. Then we get this.

Strange thread.

But if I am not mistaken, didn't at the first Munich survivors testimonial held by the club, Cantona pocketed a 100k appearance fee? With survivors themselves getting less.

Well he goes on and on that Dunphy, he loves a good rant but most of his points i think have been pretty honest and true of Ronaldo.

On a side note in reply to hennos point about Cantona and Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has had 2 fantastic seasons at United which i honestly don't think he could possibly replicate, he could perhaps play better in europe but in the league he will never have 2 seasons like he has had.

I honestly think he will flop in spain and it's not a bad bet. Ok FLOP is strong but if he is going to cost 50-80million unless he delivers to the same standard in La Liga or inspires them in europe consistently (which he has never done for United) then he will be looked at as a flop.

The UK press and pundits are some of the most over the top and rediculous people in the world of football. Ronaldo went from being a villan to having his own TV special on ITV about how brilliant he is.

Sorry but everytime he does something, anything, a pass, a flick, ANYTHING it results in cooing and superlative masturbation by the pundits, commentators and press.

He is in the privileged position where he can still play very averagely yet his performances will be lauded on his reputation alone and the press love it. I think it's to do with him being in the EPL that makes the english press and pundits want him to be the best.

I wonder who next will be elevated to "best player in the world" status once Ronaldo sods off to his "dream".

Well thats a load of rubbish isn't it. 'no resilience' he is one of the most mentally strong players I have ever seen. Aye he will always do it against the little teams, but er he also does it against the big teams so thats a stupid thing to say an' all. And what the hell is a cod?

I've stayed clear of this issue because everyone already seems to have made up their minds and I can't be arsed to try and force my opinion on this one someone else. However I do think some poeple are over reacting. To be fair Ronaldo has said from day 1 he wants to move to Spain. Its not like he has just sprung this on us. If you go back through the cafs history you will find 95% of posters admitting Ronaldo will go to Spain at some point in his career. Infact at first most people were up for flogging him straight away, now suddenly hes the best player in the world everyones changed their view. That makes us just as fickle as him.

Its also worth remembering Ronaldo is not a Manchester United fan. He didnt grow up worshipping this club like we all did. If you played for Real Madrid and Manchester United wanted to sign you, I would wager most of us would move heaven and earth to make the move happen. I'm not going to say I am happy with the way this is out being played out in the press, but thats hardly Ronaldo's fault is it. I'm a bit miffed myself at the way he is looking lik eleaving us after we have made him into the player he is. But from what I have read on here in the last few days, Ronnie isn't the only one acting like a spoilt brat.

Ok I'm done, bring on the ridicule.

It was me.

Basically what I was saying with his intelligence and background he has the potential to be a genius. He just needs to cut out these childish personal agendas (Bellend in your words) which this thread was meant to be.

Deary me..

Comparing Cantona's Kung Fu Kick (a moment of insanity and brilliance) and his early retirement with Ronaldo's flirtation with Madrid is to say the least.

Good post.

Personally i've never been in the Ronaldo is the greatest brigade to begin with nor have i been hyper critical of him because for a time that would result in cafe assassination but my points about him, and him flopping are my own genuine beleifs about him.

Mentally he is not weak i would agree with that. Doesn't have the bottle some people think he does though, penalties in the big games. And also for me he has rarely stood out on the big occasion as someone i would regard as "the best player in the world".

He was piss in the Euros too.

Ronaldo always said he wants to play for Real, we all knew this.. Why the shock horror now he maybe leaves? He's been a fantastic player for us, and we've won two leagues and one cl in two seasons with him in the team. If he go we'll get a ton of cash to either pay off some debt or buy some new player(s). FFS get over it, if real pay the cash.. his dream has always been to play for Real, his idol was Figo..

We still have Rooney, Tevez, Anderson, Nani and some other young ones who could go on to be quite good

What's that saying? Players come and go, United always...something

I'm not alone in them, it seems - you've been at it of late as well.
