I looked over my opening post again just now and it is an unmitigated clusterfuck of epic proportions - one of the most houllieresque, odd and rambling things I have ever read on here outside of the newbies.

I was sort of trying to say everyone is human, and can have huge flaws, and we should not let either the heat of the moment or the glow of nostalgia colour our views too much if we can help it. Also, that Ronaldo has in fact done a fuckload for us.

He has aged with the team, so this 'two years' thing isn't really fair - but we can leave that sort of talk for another day - a day when maybe his career is eventually over.

Instead of sort of appealing for us to judge not in the heat of the moment, and to remember than our views of others can be clouded through nostalgia and time, I did...I dunno what I did...it makes no fucking sense.

I was trying to write in a way that would make parallels that were sure to wind people up and get them irritated and then make them start thinking a little bit. But it just doesn't work at all.

Does that make sense?

There are some frightening similarities there. Yet Cantona is still worshipped.

Of course the difference is the feeling of betrayal at Ronaldo's actions in the last 30 days and his not retiring, but his trying to move to another club as if there is somehow a 'bigger' club than United.

But you must admit there is some spooky stuff there, and actually when you look at it there is an odd argument that Cantona was less of a servant of the club than some make out ( considering what he did to morale and our mindset - football isn't at all numbers).
