Evra - We must put teams to the sword, leave the pitch crimson with their blood!

By Tony Little
17th December 2009

PATRICE EVRA is unhappy that Manchester United did not inflict even MORE damage on Wolves on Tuesday night.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has faced huge criticism after making 10 changes at Old Trafford to the side that beat Spurs 1-0 on Saturday.

They duly lost 3-0 and the Premier League may yet decide McCarthy's competitive integrity was brought into question.

But United full-back Evra, 28, said: "I was not happy to only score three goals.

"The goal difference is important and, in a game like that, we should have won by five or six."

Alex Ferguson's side have hit 37 league goals so far. Although three behind Chelsea and Arsenal, it is over halfway to last year's tally of 68.

Fergie admitted: "Our scoring rate last season was good enough but it hardly blew anyone out of the water.

"A few weeks ago I asked the players to be more decisive with their chances. It seems they took my plea on board."

Okay Paddy didn't quite say that but he's a passionate lad and it the spirit is the similar.

Last season we got away with it because we were a few points above the rest of the pack, but if we were tied on points going into the last game of the season as in 07/08, we could have lost the title because Liverpool had a better GD than us. It does irritate me sometimes when we take the foot off the pedal towards the end of a game we are cruising 2-0 or 3-0 because if we put that a little bit more effort in, we could score another goal or two against a tired defense which could become very important towards the end of the season.

Too true, the last time i remember us properly thrashing a side in the league and giving them no quarter was that second half against Newcastle at OT a couple of seasons back. In the past we'd seinze an advantage and just keep scoring, no pity.

And we've been spurning chances for a good while now, in the past players like Ruud and Ole would have put them away in their sleep. Admittedly we have Owen now who is closer to that albeit no longer in his prime, but i don't see him getting an extended run any time soon under ideal conditions.

Oh. I was hoping he'd really said that.

Any other player, it wouldn't have crossed my mind that it could be true!

By far the most interesting character in our squad. Gotta love him really.

Can you imagine him taking the striker/wingers to one side, one at a time, "listen mate, I need to have a word with you about your finishing..."

Good stuff paddy, evra captain material? But yeah we really dont seem to have a ruthless streak at the moment, hard to pin down whether thats a collective or personnel issue.

I think we'll easily match and surpass our goal tally from last season. Id love to see the team rip into the opposition, hit them early and hit them hard. Its was a hallmark of the 2006/2007 season.

Fergie asked the players that. Not Evra

Oh aye, good point. Note to self, don't post if you've only skim-read the article!

Still, it's the kind of thing you could imagine Evra doing, the crazy wee mentalist.

To be honest, when I saw the title I thought that there was a genuine chance it was a real Evra quote!

Quite easily United's player of the season so far. I've never seen a more consistent performer than Pat.

Delivers every single time.

Evra is one of those players you would love to play with. Knows whats needed from him, and his teammates all the time.

He could've had about 4 assists in the first half against Wolves. It was another absolutely ridiculous performance.

I think Irwin whilst not as attacking as Evra contrbuted alot more with assists and goals. He could also cross a ball better was a far more natural defender
than Evra. The fact he could also play either full back position easily makes Irwin the superior player imo.

I agree with ya on the being mental bit!

I've been waiting for a 7-0 for a couple of season now. The 7-1 mauling of Roma is starting to fade from my memory.
