Twigginater's critique of 'Arry forgot to mention that he also failed to qualify for the CL. So basically 'Arry's achievements this year amounts to not a lot - must try harder.

And how can a manager who spent circa Ł105 million on Adam, Downing, Henderson and Carroll be in sixth place.

Wow, just wow.

All this playing good football and with a respectable net spend.

I know Redknapp doesn't have the pedigree of some of the other managers in the league for his previous jobs, fair enough, but if a foreign manager was doing what Redknapp is doing at the moment, people would be going crazy about him.

As for Suarez, very good player for sure. Very much over-rated though. And a large part of the reason we didn't finish 4th last season was because our strikers couldn't finish. Signing a player who has scored 5 league goals this season and 9 out of 29 in total, for 7 million higher than our transfer record, is hardly transfer genius.
He's done a good job, but the tide of fan opinion was definitely against him after two games this season. The bad start was on the back of failing to get CL qualification last season, and a lot of Spurs fans would have been happy to see him pack his cases and take the England job.

My opinion is similar to yours - he's a good manager, but not top drawer. For me, he'll always 'fail' when it really comes to the punch - he'll lose tactical battles in tight matches and his team will ultimately fail to deliver in the title race.

The big thing is that they failed to re-qualify for the CL for this season, because they failed to deal with their brittle spine. It was clear they needed a strong midfielder and a quality centre forward - he got Parker and Adebayor eventually, but they needed them last season. And it was a big opportunity to get established in that competition, given the relative weakness of the Top Four.

There's no way he belongs near the top of any Manager of the Year list when his work of last season is taken into account - Spurs underachieved.

To be fair, the basic idea of the list is absurd. You can't truly judge a manager on a calendar year. Second half of one season, first half of the next. It's a little silly. A manager is judged at the end of a season.

Yes, I agree. It appears that "calendar year" is the new black for dishing out useless stats and awards.

I probably fucked up the table, but the results above should be right. Although City finish 9 points behind us in the 2011 league, they played 4 "top 6" teams away instead of at home, as well as having 3 games in hand

I agree with the top three. Rarely is a top four side manager deserving of best manager in a year purely because the four are expected to be in the top four and close to one another. No surprise that we, Arsenal, and City are there.

Norwich have been absolutely a revelation considering where they were two/three years ago. Swansea deserve accolades for their position in the table and the way they play. And ole 'Arry deserves it better than the other top four managers because he's level with us on points and they weren't expected to be a CL side at the start of the season. Now people are claiming this could be their season.

I'm sorry but Fergie does not deserve accolades for me. Do you praise the general of an army for coming into war fully prepared and thus performing well? Or do you praise the general who comes in unprepared, but still manages to pull wins out of his arse while leading his depleted army slowly forward?

We came into this season woefully unprepared which automatically puts Fergie behind most managers. We didn't fix key parts of our squad and our depth is inadequate for our ambition. Fergie put us in this position: He's only on this list due to the fact that we're still treading water when better preparations would see us safe in our boat.

It's not exactly a meriting feat when you've been backed by football's richest owner.

And where have you got this hostile atmosphere from?

Links 1 2 3 4 5 who knows what goes on behind City's doors but a lesser manager would not have dealt with it. People respected Mourinho and managed to recognise the achievements behind the money.

Considering how bad they have been over the last 12 months, I think its time for Bolton and Blackburn to go down.
