Frazier Campbell

Been playing FM2008, first time playing FM since 04. My U18 is going to hammer all the others, just bought Victor Moses, Matt Briggs, Jose Baxter, Henri Saivet and John Bostock. Sent Fraizer Campbell out on loan. To the point, when i loaned him out it said that Campbell was touted as the new Les Ferdinand and when it think of it, it actually sounds about right. Quick, pacey and strong. However i havent seen him so much and was just woundering if that is a fair assement of Campbell?

He plays more like a young E'too than anyone else I can think off. Same physique and playing style as E'too as a youngster. In terms of skill on the ball, pace, confidence, aggression and off the ball running. His finishing is also like E'too's was at that age. Good to inane. Yet see the type of player E'too eventually became! If we are patient with him. I think he can develop into a similar gem. As his build gets stronger, he will be a fantastic player IMHO.

Whenever I've seen him he's been lightning quick.

Certainly will become a good premiership player in the future, whether or not at United I don't know.

Briggs and Bostock turn out mediocre at best. Moses is mid Prem level, Baxter is quite good with the right, and Saivet is excellent.

Les Ferdinand? Quick? Pacey? Not especially. Strong, yes. He was amaing in the air. Him, Bierhoff, Kluivert and Shearer used to be the elite forwards in headers, of their generation.

Fraizer Campbell is ready for Premier League duty, according to coach Eric Harrison

FRAIZER Campbell will complete pre-season training with Manchester United having being moulded into a Premier League quality striker.

That is the view of Eric Harrison, the legendary United youth coach who nurtured the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Wes Brown and the Neville brothers at Old Trafford.

Harrison insists Campbell is as good as any of the young players he worked with during his 25 years at Old Trafford.

He said: "He has been training with United's first team every day and he will have benefited from that.

"The training is very intense and competitive so it will prepare him well for playing in the Premier League.

"Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the best managers for recognising and developing the talent in young players."

Read the whole interview in today's Mail.
Is he good enough for us yet? Or should he be sent out on loan again?

From what I've seen of him at Hull and the on pre-season tour I think he's good enough to hold down our place in the first-team squad. The seven subs rule will be perfect for giving him minutes, here and there.

Not been overly impressed during preseason to be honest, he should without a doubt go on loan to Hull again - he'll play every single game bar injury - he wont get that at United!

I agree, a season of regular action in the premiership would be brilliant for him.

If we kept him this year I'd be worried that he'd have the same problem as people like Evans, Simpson and Pique did last year where after excellent loan spells they were given far too little playing time to develop.

However the 7 subs will be a big bonus for Campbell. If we get Berbatov he'll surely have to go out on loan, but if not I think he'll get a chance quite often.

I agree with that too.

But I also think he could be a really useful player for us and would provide an important option from the bench if Manucho doesn't get his work permit and/or Saha remains broken.

As per my previous post, the 7 subs rule gives young players more opportunties than they would have had in previous seasons.

Seconded. we have this way we've developed recently of not taking chances with our young players. 14 goals in the championship and still U21 should be enougth to make him an execellent addition to our squad.

Premiership ready players U21 aren't made nowadays their discovered. It might take a 1 goal to spark him into life or one deft touch but one thing is for sure he's pace would give us a vital option and that threat alone would freeup space for rooney to play behind him as defenses would have to drop deep at times to cope with him.

Frazier should get he's chance with united this season, its about time we adopted a sink or swim policy with our youth, we did in 1995/1996 and look what happen then..........

chelsea would've smashed the premiership in 95/96 and walked with the title, probably getting 95+ pts.

the game has changed now, less margin for error.

i'm not saying we shouldn't give campbell a chance. i really want him to come through and i think he could be a very good saha replacement.

i'm just saying that things aren't the same as the used to be because of changes that have been out of our control in terms of the bar being raised.

From what i've seen of him during pre-season against extremely poorer opposition than he'll come against in the Prem - he's not impressed me, and wont get many games unless there's a dramatic improvement to his physique & all-round game!

I think he should go on loan to Hull for 6mths & get games under his belt!

If you based your opinion of most of our squad on the last two pre-season games, we'd be looking to loan out about 10 or 12 players to the Championship!

Campbell's only had one start and this was in a game where almost the entire team played like spastics. I actually think that himself and Evans were the only player to emerge with any credit from Tuesday's horror show. Even though he didn't get on the score-sheet I thought he looked lively and caused them problems.

If/when he gets to play as part of a side that's on form, I think he'll look a whole lot more impressive.

The whole point of pre season is to get back to match fitness and sharpness, and when I say match sharpness that includes first touch. It not unheard of for a player to take a couple of games to rediscover their first touch after injury or during pre season.

I prefer to concentrate on what i've seen of him at full fitness and sharpness and that was last season playing for hull, where he's first touch was sure and he's pace was electric and he was easily one of the best 5 strikers in the championship.

Frazier deserves he's chance with us now.
