Friday's Press Conference

Should be an interesting one today with the Ljajic news and Phelan taking the reins, but i'm at work so won't be able to watch it. Can anyone be so kind as to give me a run down of what's said when it's shown later?

Prefer to hear it here than the paper's spin on it later on.

Not in the sense Xander was using it.

If you're going to be pedantic about grammar it's important to be right.

There's a capital letter at the start of each sentence, and usually a full stop at the end.

Also i had no idea Phelan had become a monarch of sorts.

You could also have mentioned the missing apostrophe in "theres".

Can't beat a bit of spelling/punctuation pedantry on a Friday morning.

Not in a jail/gaol sentence.

Yes, I covered myself there.

Christ, this thread has already taken a turn for the worst. Back to the topic at hand, i was sent this link which seems to go over the main points Phelan made.

Today at Old Trafford - Manchester United Official Web Site

The tune has changed a tad in that he's saying it was due to work permit issues. Still vehemently denying money is at the root of it, though the lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Indeed.

"We don't want him. He's not good enough. It's not about the money."

"..."

"We've got Darron Gibson. We don't need this new bloke. We've got Gibbo"

"..."

"Yeah, I know. Gibson doesn't play on the wing.... Ok then, we couldn't get a work permit? How about that? We couldn't get a work permit and that's why we're not signing him. So there!"

"..."

In other footballing news, Rio, Evans and O'Shea are still out for the West Ham game. Hargreaves is coming along well and doing some light ball work and Van Der Sar is fit and available for selection.

Maybe we on the cafe have worked ourselves up into hyping this Ljajic kid up too much, but you cant help but get the feeling we will regret it. Guess as it will be "as you are" at the back apart fom VDS against the hammers.

You think!? The poor lads been hyped up into some sort of super player. It's more the constant contradiction of reports that come out of Old Trafford that has me concerned. First it's because he's not shown enough the last 12 months (contrary to what Ferguson and others have said), then it's because we don't need him as we have better players coming through the ranks and now it's becuase we couldn't get a work permit.

The only constant throughout all that is that after every explaination it is added that it's not, in any way shape or form, about money. No sirree Bob.

What odds that a very angry Sir Alex Ferguson made it abundantly clear that he didn't want the club to paint him as some sort of mug who'd completely changed his mind about whether an 18 year old was good enough, over the course of 3 weeks?

It would certainly explain why they're only bringing up this work permit stuff this morning.

It's definitely not about money though. I'm glad they've cleared that up.

He he, maybe a slight underestimation of the muppetry but i haven't really followed his thread and only dipped in occasionally. But yes from what i can gather the contradictions and denials would suggest that there's more to this than meets the eye. I dare say we will never know unless he(liajic) makes it big, releases a biography and/or speaks to some rag.

Several times.

The part about Ferguson is possible, and there still hasn't been any clear reason as to why he didn't attend the press conference (that i've heard).

And Doevle the press conference was at 9.30 this morning but will be on MUTV at about 12.

I heard it was because the club found out he was a Vampire, and could only play in night games.
