He also had his game by game attempted screamer from 30 yards which missed by a mile as per normal. |

United winning today was not exclusively because of Hargreaves, although he did have a very decent game. We've had good results at Anfield over the last few years, regardless of who has played in the middle.
We got a result with Fletcher and Giggs in the middle. |

This was the kind of game which Hargreaves was made for. He should be playing against the rest of the big four, plus the big european teams.
But I'd prefer to generally see Carrick against most of the others. |

1-1 draw at Reading (Ronnie) 1-2 win at Watford (Silvestre, Giggs) 0-1 win at Blackburn (Saha) 1-2 win at Sheffield (Rooney*2) 1-2 win at Boro (Saha, Fletch) 1-0 loss at Westham 2-2 draw at Newcastle (Scholes*2) 2-1 win at Fulham (Giggs, Ronnie) 2-1 loss at Pompey (OShea) 0-1 win at City (Ronnie) 1-0 loss at Celtic 1-0 loss at Copenhagen 0-1 win at Lille with a contentious Giggs goal in the last few mins ? 13 games, 14 goals scored, 13 conceded - all against mediocre sides that Carrick rips apart with his precision passing and allows for good defensive cover ![]() In each of those games, Giggs/Ronnie/Scholes had to step up in the last few minutes to get us the points. SAF starts Hargreaves ahead of Carrick whenever he is fit. So did Sven, Capello will do the same and so will anyone who knows about football. Comparing Carrick and Hargreaves is like comparing Jenas and Gerrard - a premiership class player vs a world class professional. |

Between Carrick and Hargreaves its a tough call.... For me I think Hargreaves is a more effective player given our style of play. I dont necessarily think he's a better player, as I personally think they are totally different and for what its worth I think given the right roles and a bit of time could play well together...
I think Carrick is a really good player, subtle would be how I'd describe him... his positioning and distribution are excellent... one thing that I'd love to see is him get forward more and be a bit more adventerous but I dont think he ever will... He was a major factor in us winning the league last year... But for me Hargreaves is simply more effective, especially against better sides.... Moving forward if they dont play together I think Carrick is a great player to have to bring on later in tough matches... |

In my own opinion, something you aren't able to have without being slated for it on here, Carrick and Hargreaves pick themselves depending on who we are playing.
Hargreaves as we saw yesterday comes in when we need that little bit extra defensive cover, Carrick comes in when we dont. His distribution is fantastic, whereas Hargreaves asset is his energy and defensive abilities. Hargreaves is suited to them top games, as stated 900 times per day on here, he isnt always essential, far from it. Both players are fantastic in there own right and both have a future at the club. |
