How many want Madrid now?

So many arrogant fans on here have been calling for us to play Madrid and "destroy" them because of the whole Ronaldo saga, as if the fact that they behaved like cnuts outside the pitch means we'll beat them on the pitch.

I hope that the poor performance in the first two games and a humiliating defeat in this one, will put everyone in their place, most of all the players who seem to go out and think they have a God-given right to win every game.

Only Tevez and the subs can get a passing grade for tonight, the rest played like England and kept hoofing the ball into the box far no one to get on the end of.

Many blind feckers are putting Vida and Evra as MOM, are you having a laugh? Vidic was skinned by Arshavin and owned by Danny, he was very lucky Danny missed the empty net. Evra was skinned 3 (in letters: THREE) times in the first 20 minutes, and any serious team would have punished us easily.

And no, I don't buy this "we played well when we could be bothered" nonsense. 15 minutes of bare dominance doesn't make up for 70 minutes of crap. It won't cut it against stronger teams. We were lucky to be playing Zenit (or may be it wasn't their night), it could have easily been 5 or 6-0.

I hope Fergie gives them a good hairdryer tonight. Otherwise, a repeat of not even qualifying for the quarterfinals is in order

This is what I believe people refer to as a 'knee-jerk reaction'.

Strange that you seem to regard Madrid as the benchmark for all European clubs.

This result will have no bearing on the rest of our season. I still want to draw them in the Champions League and stuff them.

I wanted to play Madrid and still want to at some point, this result does not change that. There is nothing arrogant about it.

Dont know about this "destroy" them stuff. Strange rant.

It bothers me that we tried to win this and couldn't be "bothered". It was also the same for the first two games in the Prem. Complacency is rearing its ugly head.

Relax mate I think most of the players apart from Tevez could'nt be asked to play this match.

Plus this is Zenit's 14th game this season, we have only played 3.

We are a far better team than Zenit, we are the same team that won the Champions League and the Premier League FFS.

But you laughed when Scholesy put the ball in the back of net though right?

ever thought you might be underestimating how good zenit were at times?

As it is, we lost because some of the players treated it like a friendly and some didn't and credit to them.

If we played zenit in European competition, the performance would be different. I would suggest 'as a team' zenit are every bit as good as madrid. For what they lack, tonight they would have given anyone a game, but i thought some of the players were in first gear and i'm sure they'll be told as much

additionally, zenit's seasons well under way where as we've played two games, had a disruption of silly internationals. Clearly we can play better..

Well after tonight I dont want us anywhere near Real Madrid. We are currently not in the best form to face them. Give us a couple more weeks to get up to speed.

I used Madrid because that's what I've been reading on here every few days. Very arrogant of us. Besides, you can't think of many other clubs to use as benchmarks except us last season, and them

It wasn't a friendly though. SAF wanted to win it. He also put out the best team we could muster, and no one except Tevez was good enough

saf wanted to win it the players did but sometime you play shite and we either played shit tonight or treated it as a friendly. Take dannys goal, not one fucking tackle

Zenit played well and probably suprised one or two of the lads. It's obvious next time we'll be better prepared.
